I would say the average Korean post military duty is on par with some Japanese guys who work out and trained in some type of aggressive martial arts for 5 years.

No matter where you live it will eventually cease to be exotic and you'll go through the same thing again. I've been pretty down on Japan for awhile too and had trouble figuring out why. I'm sure the shitty economy and 3-11 aftermath have had somewhat of an impact but this morning I think I finally realized what it is. I like the 24-hour boozing and womanizing options that a city like Tokyo offers. However, I've passed the age where I can take advantage of that 4 or 5 times a week and still do my job. Without that Tokyo is just an ugly stressful city that doesn't offer a very good quality of life. I'm not a big fan of the Japanese countryside either. The only answer is to find a way to generate income without working so I can keep being a booze-bag and a whore monger

A lot of the guys who left were people you expected to be lifers too (i.e. 10 - 20 years in Japan with a local wife and kids).
