Lady Gaga Won't Tone Down Show, Says Manager

Lady Gaga's manager Troy Carter said the pop star will not tone down her act, even if that prevents her from performing in certain cities during her Asian tour, the Associated Press reports.

Indonesian newspaper The Straits Times reported today that Carter said that Gaga is not "provocative for the sake of being provocative," and that she "plays the show as it is."

Carter's statements come a week after Gaga was denied a permit and forced to cancel a sold-out concert in Jakarta, Indonesia, following protests from Islamic leaders and conservative politicians who feared Gaga's performance would corrupt the youth. With threats of physical violence coming in, police said they were usure they'd be able to guarantee safety and recommended that the permit for Gaga's show be denied...

I'm not a big fan of her music. Not a big Madonna fan either, and I can see the connection quite clearly (in fact I think Gaga herself says Madonna is a huge influence). I'm merely commenting on her success and projected longevity. The former is already a fact, and I think you'll see her around for a long time, even even she bails out of music and goes into design or something.

I think you're mistaken about her intelligence. She crafted her current persona in order to succeed ... her way ... and is doing very well with it, obviously. She didn't start out like that, she deliberately created the Lady Gaga character and segued into it later on, with a purpose. To me, calling Lady Gaga stupid is equivalent to calling Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean) stupid and clumsy.

Of course all just my opinion, but there it is.

Yes, but as an artist Amy Winehouse will still be remembered after 50 years, while Lady Gaga will just be a side-note.

I'm with Hammer.
Gaga has craftily and shrewdly created a persona aimed at longevity in a field not really known for providing it. Who knows whether she'll succeed long-term, but it seems at the moment that she's on the right track.
As far as heading down the Amy Winehouse path, again who knows? It could happen to anyone and she's certainly in a business somewhat more susceptible to self-destruction than most. I hope she doesn't end up that way, though...

Not sure you can really be remembered for long while being just another copycat of an artist who is still in the game. (despite a disastrous appearance in Die Another Day). The comparison with Rowan Atkinson is unfair, like S Baron Cohen. You know perfectly well the man from the character played and they openly offer several level of interpretation. Beside... one is electrical engineer from Queen's university in Oxford while the other is a dropout of clown school usa...

Once she runs out of cheap provocations... there is nothing else remaining...
