Fitness Clubs in Japan

Postby McTojo » Sat May 19, 2012 2:23 pm

I used to be a member of Gold's Gym and Konami Sports Club way back in the day when I first got to Japan. I was in fairly descent shape back then because of it, and the dozen or so people I had met there. I stopped going to these clubs because of the hours of operation at these places. 10 to 9pm wasn't flexible enough for me, besides, who wants to work out after working anyway? That's the main reason I left Gold's Gym. I quit Konami because I was becoming a pervert; I used to sit down next to the aerobics room watching the Jukujo's do step-ups! So obvious. Plus I didn't like having to change my shoes all the time, plus the sauna and jacuzzi were too small.

Now come to find out the Gold's Gym in my area has become 24hrs. I plan on joining and working off this ponche. I am sick and tired of not being able to tie my damn shoe laces. And am getting tired of not being able to hump like a descent and respectable man. When I was younger I used to be able to suck my own dick, now I can't even bend over to tie my own shoelaces - I had a flat tummy back then. It's gotten really pathetic.

So, what your experiences with gyms in Japan? How many of you are members and what gyms do you recommend?

The above would've been a humorous read, if it hadn't been written by you.

Reputation blah, blah...I think this is one of the funniest posts I've ever read on this board!
It took me a few minutes to get my uproarious laughter under control and now the other wage slaves are looking at me like I'm some sort of gaijin...

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Coligny again.
What's up with the reputation thingy anyway (doesn't seem to work anymore)?

IF you just posted this... People would have been scratching their head as to why you didn't post some stupid stuff.

But you didn't, even though your post is legitimate and has something to put towards the community...

To answer your question (if that is what you are intending to do...) I would like to start going to Gold's Gym in Harajuku cause Pancrase Tokyo is there and I would love to get back into wrestling or boxing again... Just too tied down ATM.

Now to add a bit of something on the topic... I stopped because it was full of old weirdos wanting to 'practice' their english not giving me a fracking break while i was trying to breath and exercise at the same time...

I've since learned to enjoy my moobs instead...

I guess that's another advantage of living in the Tokyo area. You get a lot less of that. It does still happen though. I suggest going to a boxing gym if you don't want people talking to you. Guys who do boxing don't tend to chit-chat while training.

My tolerance for violent sports range between minigolf and watching Formula 1 races on TV... So I think I will pass on boxing...

You don't actually have to box Coligny, just use the equipment there....though my guess is it would be nearly, if not totally, lemur free. Funny this topic came up just now, I've been to 5~6 different gyms since I moved here and after some time off, one of the two gyms within 30 sec walking distance from me is have a campaign that makes just expensive as compared to insanely overpriced. Time to get back in shape for this coming season anyways. (Besides, the occasional 9 or 10 in there is always good motivation :D )

You don't have to (and it Japan mostly likely wouldn't be allowed to) spar.

no you cant... and EVEN THOUGH there is a wrestling mat (blue, with a circle in the middle) you can not wrestle BUT practicing is OK?!??!?! Only when a school/camp rents/reserves the area.

For my wrestling needs, I go to Shinjuku Sports Center, but there is a whole bunch of other people practicing kendo, taekwondo, etc. but not much randori or bouts... so me + friends are the only ones rolling around.

but yes, if you don't want to be bothered, just go to the gym's combat sport area and no one speaks to each other unless they are being trained or gay.

Well.....

Postby McTojo » Mon May 21, 2012 12:07 pm

I see....So, I'll be going in to sign the contract on the first of next month. I think I have created enough excuses for being fat. I'll tell you more about fat later. My return to Gold's Gym will be good. The sauna and the shower rooms are fairly decent. Plenty of weights and machines and a great atmosphere. I met three or four really cool expats there when I was a member. As for speaking with Japanese guys in the gym, well, no! But if you like chatting it up with the ladies, housewives, especially the Jukujo, I highly recommend Konami - any Konami in the greater Yokohama area in the afternoon.

Just to keep living, I spend all day, every day figuratively running as fast as possible and getting nowhere, so it's hard to find a need to pay a small fortune to do the same thing at a gym.

If you walk wherever possible (long strides are best) and fuck (preferably daily) you'll get all the exercise you need, and can also probably slim down or lose pounds by lessening calorie intake as the day goes on.

I was talking about boxing gyms. In Japan, if you aren't a competitive fighter they generally don't let you do hard sparring at boxing gyms. My friend is a boxing coach in the US and he said it's the opposite there. He said they start telling how good you look after a few months and try to talk you into stepping into the ring even if you are garbage. They want some human punching bags for the real fighters to practice on.

I guess if you want to know the truth about just how shitty you are, you could always train with this guy.

Japanese gyms can suck my cock. I was a member of Tipness for ages, and then a Konami light member (90 minutes, any day, for 8000 a month). I eventually said fuck that, since I was swimming at the Kokuritsu Kyougijou twice a week, so it was just a waste of money. Now, that is shutting down and I am without a gym.

As I work in the day, I'm not going to get away with anything less than 12,000 yen. Gold's doesn't have a pool, so that's out. Konami & Tipness do, even though their gyms suck. For me, the cost is ridiculous. 13,000 or so a month. Even with my swim 2x a week, lift 2x a week, that's about 14 trips a month. Figuring in my work trips, it's about 1000 yen each time I go, which is just not good enough for me. I would *MAYBE* consider it if these fuck tards didn't have teikyuubi, but they do. Konami in my neighborhoods is every Friday (lol wut?)

My solution is to swim at one of the many public pools for 300-400 yen a shot. They're 25 meters, but no worse than Tipness/Konami. I will jog twice a week (Yoyogi Park, rain or shine), so that leaves me having to use public gyms to lift. Now, the public gyms are REALLY awful if you want to use a lot of stuff, so I'm thinking of either phasing out weights until Kokuritsu Kyougijou opens back up. Or, just doing one of those dumb bell only workouts.

dude... get your own weights and if that is too difficult to transport or find and buy, get some bleach bottles and fill it up with rocks, sand, and water.

I am going to invest into some weights in the near future, I cant get a bench or anything, but I all REALLY need wights for are curls, squats, and for running.

I also need to engineer a pullup bar...

A healthy appreciation for ass sniffing is not character flaw. It's a primal urge that all men have.

That's what I sort of have been thinking too. Gold's Gym in Bashamichi has a pool. Gyms are not only great places to get in shape, but you also you can meet some really cool people.
