All the Big Boys got busted

Sounds like somebody forgot to pay their LDP dues and didn't invite PM Kozumi to the Zhuhai Hotel party....

Major contractors raided over alleged bid-rigging
TOKYO, Sept. 30 Kyodo - (13 :25)Investigators from the Fair Trade Commission (FTC) on Tuesday searched the offices of Kajima Corp., Shimizu Corp., Taisei Corp., Obayashi Corp. and Penta-Ocean Construction Co. suspected of rigging bids for public works projects in the city of Niigata.

Or, it is about time that an example be made of a few of the bigger players so the process can continue merrily on under the guise that a "crackdown" is taking place.

I've been through a Ministry of Finance (MoF) crackdown. How? Well... my clients at a institutional brokerage called me up to deal withl some "emergency backups". He told me to bring my car. The "emergency backups" turned out to be loading my car with every scrap of paper records in the office before the "surprise" MoF raid on their head office the next day.

For the next few weeks the records sat in my kitchen where the brokerage employees would come and dig through them when needed. The MoF declared the raid a "success" and the employees came and cleaned up my kitchen.

WHY my kitchen? Easy. The MoF would never in 10,000 years think to look in a GAIJIN subcontractor's house for records of a Japanese company. Using a GAIJIN would be an unseemly and unfair trick.

Rob Pongi wrote:... I too have been through an MOF investigation.... OH MY BUDDHA! Words, in any language, cannot express how much of a surrealistic nightmare that was. And, as I'm sure you know, one cannot tell these guys 'No' or 'I don't know' - no way. Such responses are 'unnaceptable' and if one says either of those answers, they just keep drilling deeper and deeper with very practiced and skillful interrogation methods. ...

Oh you're far better than me if you survived. I would never try to "reason" in Japanese with the MoF butt-burglers. :eek2:

My claim to fame was that before the MoF investigation, I had successfully survived a FULL field audit of the Tax Bureau at my previous employer. With battering rams, jackboots, it was the full Marusa Onna raid. After living through that, I was knew what to do for the MoF investigation: speak in happy PONGI Pet-Gaijin Drivel and as sound stupid as possible. Image

But, ironically, my former employer disrespected me as they expected me to lie for them!

That's a prime example of why the Japanese corporations keep getting into trouble like Nippon Ham and Snow Brand Milk.

And Taro, you do got balls, one for doing that maneuver and another for publicly declaring it on FG. That's a funny story and it's true they'd NEVER think to look in the gaijin's house, unless they read FG.
