I didn't know that they were able to carry their weapons off base. Maybe not such a good idea. What exactly does an OSI officer do anyway? Why do they need to carry a weapon? I also wonder what nationality that name is. I was thinking Balkan, perhaps?

Not Balkan. A quick Google suggests Central Asia-stani. Think Tajik or Kazakh or Uzbek.

Thanks for that Wagyl. Didn't know the air force had such a position. When I read the first line talking about them investigating terrorism etc., I thought this might have been a new position started after 9/11, but later on it said it was created in 1948.
Anyway, tonight on the news, all of the Japanese neighbors are shocked and now afraid that a rash of murders or suicides are about to take place!:roll:

When I was at Misawa, one of my friends drunk prankcalled the general's wife.
OSI agents showed up EARLY next morning.
They are permitted to grow beards and don't wear uniforms. I was unaware that they were permitted firearms in Japan though. That was something I'm sure the USAF didn't want the general populace to know.

Probably not canman, just my own personal bias on his religion.

As for internal affairs, OSI serves at the pleasure of the base commander.
He can direct OSI or base police on certain issues.
OSI also investigates foreign fiances before servicemen can marry them also.

I know that you have already responded to Canman's reply on this, but just as an aside, anybody looking at my first name and family name would correctly assume that the successive paternal line (and potentially that line only) goes back originally to a historically predominantly Christian country, and my first name is of a Christian saint, but it has been at least three generations since anybody has actually believed that a God, who is also confusingly a man and a spirit at the same time, died to give us an easy let out for sins we have committed, and then came back to life. We don't feast on God's flesh or drink His blood each week in a disturbing ritual, nor do we venerate an instrument of torture from ancient Rome as a religious symbol. We do, however, have enough sensitivity to allow people to believe whatever they want to, and the cultural sensitivity to go through and capitalise all references to God, even in the pronoun, for those who do.

Caution is advised in reading too much into a name.

Blackston taught kids days before murder, may have toured with AI

Although no official statement has been made by the artist or her representatives, evidence points to links between high-profile Japanese pop star AI (Ai Carina Uemura) and at least one, if not both, of the suspects being questioned over the rape and murder of Nicola Furlong.

It is believed that 23-year-old American James Blackston, the only person named by Tokyo police in relation to the crime, was dancing on stage with AI just days before he was arrested...

It is believed that prior to his arrest on May 24, Blackston, who uses the dancing name "King Tight" or "KT," was touring Japan with the singer as part of her AI "Independent" Tour 2012.

Blackston is believed to have shared the stage with AI at a concert in Koriyama, Fukushima Prefecture, on May 22, the day before Furlong allegedly met the two men at a Nicki Minaj concert in Tokyo. Earlier reports falsely suggested the two suspects were part of the Minaj entourage, something the artist strongly denied in a recent public statement, but it is believed Blackston has danced for high-profile American acts in the past, such as the Black Eyed Peas.

On May 21, the day after the AI Sendai concert, Blackston gave a special King Tight Workshop at a dance school in Sendai, where he taught the moves to a number of AI's songs to fans, some of whom appear to be as young as junior high school age.

Rumors are also circulating that the other suspect, a 19-year-old American musician who police refused to name due to his age, may also be part of the AI entourage — possibly a player or backup singer — but this has yet to be confirmed...
