I think this is just a good example of the power of celebrity in Japan. The first trailer aimed at the Japanese audience makes sure to give a good head shot of all the main actors and doesn't give a shit about selling the story. like when that batman movie came out and it was called Mr Freeze because of Arnie. They got their shit down here.

13 Assassins

Postby ColinizeR » Sun May 01, 2011 8:59 pm

Yeah, I've seen it. It's reminiscent of the Seven Samurai, plot and cinematography-wise, but obviously a little more modern. There are some very cool scenes in it which will probably surprise you (don't want to give too much away).. Pretty much non-stop fighting from start to finish. Definitely worth checking out.

The Japanese version is just the action and no story. The american version is the pitiful interpretation of Japan. Sorry to say this movie will make millions because of the Idiocracy of modern humanity.

The American version certainly has the "quick shot of something quick fade to black what did I actually just see" thing down.

I've heard Prince Willy's new sister-in-law's ass is a sin, but I guess she probably has sweet fuck all to do with his movie, I just needed a place to post this smarmy comment and this one seemed linguistically appropriate...

this is somewhat seven-samurai (with all its followers; dirty dozen, magnificent sevev, etc.) but i really liked it. interesting take with the difference in trailers.

In general, not a bad movie.
Compare to the rest of the modern Japanese movie industry products - a very good one.

The whole movie was just action with very minimal story. First time I ever felt a movie battle/fight scene was dragged on too long.....and then just when you thought it was over, it went even longer.
