Forum status updates - read it here first...

As might or might not be obvious, the FG forums are now up and running again (after a very long weekend massaging the conversion script and possibly uncovering a bug in PHP, but that is another story). However there are still a number of glitches which require loving care and attention, so please bear with me over the next few days while I whip the goats into a frenzy of activity.

Existing logins *should* work, it's possible passwords which haven't been changed in the last few years may need to be reset.


Please be aware I received the forum database but no associated images, so only hotlinked images will show up. The "private" forums had been emptied before the database dump, so these will be empty. Also, I don't have any kind of access to the original forum installation, so am not 100% sure what essential features etc. I might have missed.

Most links to threads on the old forum software should be redirected correctly, some link types might not work however.


Resolved issues:
- login session issue (causing frequent logouts) - should be resolved

Outstanding issues:
- add missing emoticons / smilies the ones which appear directly on the edit post screen are now all showing up, though if any are obviously different to the old FG ones, please let me know (and provide the appropriate image file
- enable upload of attachments enabled, see note below
- check avatar upload works, if not enable Avatars enabled (max size 120x120px150x150px)
- check board can send emails
- check PM works PMs do indeed work
- add missing BBCode elements, esp. for youtube link YouTube BBCode adde
- View Active Topics link might not be working fixed
- Reparse old posts so [yt] links display properly

- add logo, favicon (any suggestions?) favicon added
- enable registration
- purge existing spammy registrations
- enable PM popup notification enabled
- [s]enable "quick reply" on all forums[/s] done
- add useful global menu bar links "New posts • Active topics" links added
- make a snazzier theme

The old favicon was ok or a compressed version of the kanji for furiyo gaijin would work well.


Likewise, the last pre-crash FG banner is fine and matches the default forum colors.

Let me know if there's anything else I've missed...

--The portel/font page is critical for advertisers and for attracting new members.
--The top of the index page used to have the actual titles of the last eight posts not just a button.
--RSS feed? I probably just screwed up but I can't get the RSS feed to work.

And fixed... it looks like the conversion script switched off the option in all forums to enable posts in each forum to appear in the active topics link...

I wasn't going to announce anything for a couple of days so I could fix the various outstanding issues, otherwise people will be reporting the same known issues over and over again...

The transparent GIF I made is full of random gomi. Sorry, but I don't know why the logo looks so rough (obviously I don't how to do create a transparent GIF correctly). You better pull that botched GIF.

There is a list of moderators under "The team" but the permissions haven't been changed. Only an admin (ie you) can do that. Then we will have the in-line mod tools and access to the mod control panel.

Avatar uploads are now reenabled (max size 150x150px).

(Unfortunately the avatars from the old forum are no longer with us and are beyond any attempt at resurrection)

Okay... attachment uploading now also supported. Currently with the default phpBB settings, which means the image is sometimes partially obscured unless you click on it... willl see what I can do about that. Edit: should be fixed now.

Let me know if there are any subforums where attachment uploads aren't available - the permissions are still a bit whacky.
