Yeah, I'll probably end up going to the drug store tonight....just not too happy with this doc. He was talking about keeping me on the oral meds I was already on for my cold and then when I was on my last day of those, he suddenly changed his mind  but like this time, he was already in another room with another patient, shouting back at the nurses...professional care I tell yah!

prescription oral meds for a cold? that sounds fairly dangerous...a cold needs to sort itself out. hope he's not given you antibiotics for a simple cold!!

i've always found the k-port folk very helpful. go get all the lotions, potions, and bandages for your festering wound sorted out and then tell them you've got a cold on top of it. they'll have something for that too. basically, unless you've got to get stitches out, i'd not go back to the doc as long as it's healing properly.

Cold is over and done with but he kept prescribing me クラビット for my cough, along with a pain killer?? (カロナール)and whatever フスコデ is??

I got a lemur to bring me all I need last night but she almost passed out when she went to change it for me....is it normal to leave it with a gaping hole?

####### BUT, as a general rule of thumb, not dressing a -non natural- skin opening with antibiotic or prescribed balm and clean bandage remain a bad idea ######

###### now back to the usual madness ######

ABSOLUTELY FUCKIN NOT...

It's an open gate for full blown infection.

Right now, If you wuz my cat we'd be speeding on the highway to her Vet's Primary clinic in Hamamatsu.

Go back to have this shit disinfected and properly closed ASAP. Or hope you have some antibiotic cream to put (on a gaze, then tape it over the opening), then have it closed.

Or if you want to play hardcore, knife blade over a flame until it's red, then put it on the wound, and go for oral antibiotics...

1- Ready a lawyer for the sucker who let it at this.
2- J-I-C, can I have your stuff if you don't make it (phone book primarily) ?

Yes, they want deep holes to drain---Normally, I have had surgeons put in a shunt (small flexible pipe) for 2-5 days. I am guessing that your hole is still actively spewing puss like Mount Vesuvius, so the doctor left it open (if the wound is not actively spewing, it should have been closed).

Tip: I used to swim daily and I used a clear waterproof dressing when I had major cuts. As a 20-minute temporary fix, when you change your regular dressing you could slap on a large clear waterproof dressing and carefully take a shower. Just be sure to take off the waterproof dressing, re-sterilize the area, and put on a new Maxipad-looking regular dressing.

Coligny, I have it covered, just took the pic while she cleaned it and changed the bandages. It is deep and for the past 5 days they had been stuffing the hole with medicated gauze....BUT they took the last of that out on monday, applied some medication (which he said he'd be prescribing...never did) and then covered it with a bandage and sent me on my way til thurs. morning. I had a coworder call to ask "WTF? Where is the medication" and the hospital reply was something along the lines of "you don't need to do anything til thursday."

The lemur said it was still oozing so I guess maybe the hole is intentional for drainage BUT still weirded out by the doc and not prescribing the topical medication. The nurse was even telling me I needed to have a friend apply it for me and bandage it up...now they're acting like they never said anything or that they meant after the next appt...doesn't make any sense to leave the same bandage on for 4 days or not tell me what kind of ointment to put on it but TIJ, not much does.

Oh well, for now I have ointment and plenty of gauze/tape/waterproof dressing...just not too confident in the hospital/doc. Honestly would feel safer at my friend's vet...

I'm pretty sure that when they want it to breath by itself they still give at least antibiotic cream to dress the hole. Pus is basically result of an infection. When the absess is closed you deal with the initial bacterial population only. Once you open, it's party time. Back of the neck get all the sweat from the top of the head which don't seems to good.

Sidenote: The lack of sewing marks around the hole let think that it was let open on purpose...

Traditionnally... going out with an open wound is double plus bad idea...

dude... some good advise... go to another fucking doctor and say that you want a second opinion. suffer for an hour and let the bloke open it up and see what is going on.

come out to central tokyo, check out Showa Daigaku Byouin 昭和大学病院 (http://www.showa-u.ac.jp/SUH/index.html). they fixed Jr. up when he almost died, so a cyst should not be that much of an issue. they speak English (some of the younger blokes) and they get more hands on experience than some inaka 10 year experienced docs get.

that or I can have a look at it for you and do some patch work. You can make your own hydrogen-peroxide/vitamin E paste that will keep the outside nice and clean and you can delute the paste with water (make it really watery) and do a quick wash IF your hole can drain by you laying on your back.

Could also be a gud idea...

For a baybeee cold I went to the local Kodomo Clinic, really close, held by the son of me Julie's grand mothers friend. Fast, no appointement needed.
(the usual hospital pediatric require appointement and never less than 3 hours of waiting AFTER the apointed time... but you have to check in on time if not it's even worse).
Experience was awesome the guy was cool, free candy, explained lots of stuff to mominlaw aboot side problems... (complicate situation described with simple words...).
But holy farking shitstorm. When the clinic guy called the hospital to inquire aboot some details on files, the hospital pediatrist rushed into me Julies office (accross the corridor) to inquire why we went there and on and on and on... Julie played dumb (real gud at that, like second nature) and said she didn't knew what it was all about. And I went to tell him that I didn't want to wait 3 hours for a drippy nose that required at most vitamins and cold medecine. But such a reactivity should have rung a bell... especially from a guy who considered 4 seizures/day as 'normal'. With a team of nurse who required 45 minutes to draw blood for a test, where in fine there was more blood on everyones clothes than on the syringe... FFS I've helped my vet draw blood from Lanxade (which is the postercatgirl for batshit insane with absolutely no respect for human life) it took 5 minutes including preparation, not a drop was spilled and nobody was killed or even wounded...

Not much a second opinion will do for me now, hole is there and all I can really do now is make sure it is taken care of as it heals...but yeah, fuck this place. No way in hell I'm using this hospital again. It's Sasaki "Sassa!" Hospital in Tanashi (Tokyo) This is also the same place that had us wait 2 hours for one of my lemurs who nearly chopped her finger off....only to amaze the doc there at the time. "This is unbelievable!! How can an ER....a hospital...not have blood clotting agent?!!!" They sent us to another hospital the next day but not before taking 25,000 in cash from the lemur (off hours means the computers/regs are down??) and telling her to come back the next day for a receipt and change. As Coligny pointed out, there is no shortage of customers so the hospitals/clinics seem to get away with some really crazy shit....

I buy mine (Cold meds etc) OS and bring them in as a personal imports. Same with my toothpaste and antipersperant. I loves the interwebs...

I do love living here, but I make sure I have all my comfort items sourced from where ever I need to.

From what recall, the only thing let open to vent were teeth with bad cavities, hole filled with a cotton containing a cream for few days.
But with big ass antibiotics pillz (the bowel uber wrecking kind) and medicated mouthwash 3 time a day (with a blinking "DO NOT SWALLOW" written on the package)...

Try the American Pharmacy. I heard they were carrying real antipersperant and not the gloried smellies they sell as deodorant here.

I think this is what we all do....

Claritin (is the "D" version even available here?) is like $14USD OTC in LA whereas it's something like a 3,000yen after a bunch of wasted time with the doc office/fees/waiting.

Shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, hand santizer, body wash, vitamins, oh how the list goes on...

Unfortunately I can only use unscented deodorants due to a skin allergy and I've never seen unscented foreign brands in Japan. I always stock up when I'm back but on my last trip I left my trip to the drug store till the last minute and they were low on what I needed.

Isn't the point of deodorant that it is scented?

Oooh, I am very partial to unsalted mixed nuts / trail mix, which is almost impossible to find here and consumption of which would certainly hasten the reinvigoration of FG. But only if it's really no trouble.

クラビット is Levofloxacin, a strong antibiotic that is way over prescribed here. Unless your cough is from some sort of crazy bacterial infection it will do sweet fuck all for you. It also has some rather nasty potential side effects and you shouldn't be taking it and doing any strenuous physical activity. One of the more dramatic side effects is it increases the chance of achilles tendon ruptures.

The point of deodorant is to decrease the production of the bacteria that creates BO. The unscented stuff does that just as well as the scented stuff but without the overpowering perfume.
