On one side China demented view on maritime borders, there is not a single country between japan and singapour they are not pissing of.
Other side, private citizens and an also demented mayor deciding to join together in order to put oil on the fire like big boys.

I would not be surprised if the islands, after being are sold to Tokyo, would be invaded by China. Then, when the shit hits the fan, Blinky will be all too happy to have all them foreigner barbarian soldiers protect him.

Wait... so Japan is going to back something up that they are not going to comply with? Whaling? Senkaku Islands?

Ohhh how contradictive we are Nippon...

Without offering endorsement in any way, neither of the above are illegal as such.

The Senkakus were generally recognized as Japan's until 1971, when China and subsequently Taiwan made claims against them.
Whaling, too, is justified by being conducted as "scientific research," which is permissible under the IWC's moratorium on commercial whaling, and Japan hasn't yet been found guilty of acting illegally anywhere except in the court of public opinion.

BBC News wrote:Japan activists land on disputed islands amid China row

At least 10 Japanese nationalist activists have landed on a group of disputed islands, amid an escalating territorial row with China.

The activists swam ashore after a flotilla carrying about 150 people reached the Japanese-controlled Senkaku islands, called Diaoyu in China.

Japan's coast guard is now questioning the activists, who had earlier been denied permission to visit the islands.

The move triggered protests in China and strong condemnation from Beijing.

More than 100 people gathered near the Japanese consulate in China's southern city of Guanghzou, demanding the Japanese to leave the islands, the state-run Xinhua news agency said.

Anti-Japanese rallies were also held in Shenzhen, Qingdao and Harbin, the agency reported.

The islands in the East China Sea lie on a vital shipping lane, and are surrounded by deposits of gas.

They are also claimed by Taiwan.

Tokyo governor to visit disputed islands
Channel NewsAsia | 24 August 2012
Tokyo's outspoken governor said Friday he would visit a group of islands at the centre of a bitter territorial dispute with China in a move that could inflame a heated diplomatic spat.
Shintaro Ishihara, well-known for his nationalistic views, said he planned to land on the uninhabited East China Sea archipelago -- called Senkaku in Japanese and Diaoyu in Chinese -- in October.
His announcement Friday comes as nationalistic sentiments have flared both in Japan and China after pro-Beijing activists who landed on the islands this month were arrested by Japanese police and later deported.
Japanese activists and local legislators also landed on the Japanese-controlled islands, despite warnings not to do so by authorities.

Ishihara, who has been soliciting public donations to buy the islands from their private Japanese owners, added that a team of surveyors, biologists and local politicians would visit the disputed chain next week.
"We will conduct a survey again in October. I will go at that time," Ishihara told Japanese media Friday.
"If I get arrested, that's OK," he added.

1,000 people hold anti-Japan protest in China's Shandong
BEIJING, Aug. 25, Kyodo

About 1,000 people held an anti-Japan demonstration Saturday in Rizhao, Shandong Province, amid a dispute over the Japanese-controlled Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea.
The protestors asserted China's sovereignty over the islands and called for a boycott of Japanese products as they marched on the streets of the eastern China city carrying banners and national flags.
Some protestors turned violent and broke the windows of a Japanese restaurant.

I'm starting to think that a small scale war between these "nationalists" on both sides might not be a bad thing... wouldn't care who won either, just as long as most of them didn't survive.

I dunno about that...so far most other countries have wanted to stay out of this spat. (Not that it's an indication of what could happen but as much as I'd like to call Blinky a J-Hitler, he's just not that powerful)

Japan blocks landing on disputed islands to defuse China tensions
TOKYO | Mon Aug 27, 2012 (Reuters) ---The Japanese government on Monday refused to let Tokyo metropolitan authorities land on islands at the centre of a territorial dispute with China, a move aimed at defusing tensions that led to biggest anti-Japan protests in years.
Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara has proposed buying the islands from their private Japanese owners and has sought central government permission to send a team of officials to survey the land.
The plan has prompted Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda to suggest that the central government could instead buy the islands it now leases. Both plans sparked outrage in China.
"The government has reached a conclusion of not permitting landing based on the purpose of its lease, which aims at peaceful and stable management and control of the Senkaku islands," a government official said...more...

Japan infuriates China by agreeing to buy disputed isles

Japan has agreed to buy a group of islands disputed with China from their private owners, a government official said on Monday, prompting an angry rebuke from China a day after Chinese President Hu Jintao warned against such an "illegal" move.

Japan aimed to nationalize the uninhabited islands in the East China Sea as soon as possible to control them in a peaceful and stable manner, Chief Cabinet Secretary Osamu Fujimura said.

We'll be OK for now but if China's bubble does burst as spectacularly as some people are predicting this is the kind of bullshit little skirmish the CCP could blow out of hand to keep the masses angry at someone other than them.

Yeah... that's what is often said...

A more accurate description would be... Like Red Dawn, except it's good.

The basic setup is the same.

Red Dawn was written for Reagan "Magic of the marketplace" audience and start with baby eating commies landing. Then there's gud'murkin's kickin their balls out of the sacred land... Typical kapitalist pigzor porpraganda.
(well except for that little hidden message: http://www.cracked.com/article_18812_5- ... -film.html)

TWTWB is more focused on the character development, a good part of the movie is set before anything happens and is enjoyable on its own. Then the shit hit the fan and characters you started to like in their daily lives have to go through transformation. Citizen joining there forces against an enemy forgetting the class warfare created by an inequal capitalist system, heavily symbolised by the romance between Fi (lawyers daughter) and Homer (son of farmers)... A bit more like a depiction of briliant Soviet heroism in war.

Except in Oz, lawyers and farmers belong to the same class...(except the lawyers steal their money pretty much the same way they do everywhere else and the farmers suck it away from taxpayers via government tax breaks that are not formally recognized as subsidies)
