Two men who took close-up video footage of the bodies of cheer dancers at a high school festival were arrested Sept. 9 after a teacher noticed them and alerted police, law enforcers said.
The pair, Hidenobu Fujimoto, 43, and Naoki Sugimoto, 36, were arrested on suspicion of violating a Kanagawa Prefectural ordinance banning people from creating a public nuisance. Police said that Fujimoto admitted to the allegations against him, but Sugimoto denied them, telling police, "I was filming the whole stage."
Police said the pair used digital video cameras to take footage of the dancers during a festival at a prefectural high school in Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture, from about 12:25 p.m. on Sept. 9. They said the two sat close to the stage and zoomed in on the dancers' crotches.
A 26-year-old teacher serving as an adviser to the cheer dance team noticed the men acting suspiciously, and after questioning them and checking the footage, alerted police.
Police said the pair had gotten to know each other while filming dancers at another location in the past.
