I want a better split by numbers, last time they published these kind of study they had to split the IPhone lineup by color, size and provider to be able to claim that some people were also buying non apple smartphones...

I haven't done a search for a more detailed analysis or "breakdown" but perhaps one does exist.

Google Translate and Dragon Go! are a bit better. With more people using the system, it should improve with time.

A woman finds Aladdin's magic lamp.

She starts rubbing it and a Genie comes out as usual.

The woman looks at the Genie and she asks him to grant her a wish:
...
"I want my husband to have only eyes for me,
I want to be the only one in his life,
I want him to sleep always by my side,
I want that when he gets up in the morning i'm the first thing he grabs
and to take me everywhere he goes...."

And whoosh!!!

The Genie turned her into

...an iPhone.

iPhone 5 to constantly change shape

APPLE’S latest iPhone will feature shape-shifting technology and can become anything from a mountain to a large pig.

The announcement explains wildly inconsistent online photos – of everything from a conventional smartphone, to a fleshy green fruit and a flock of geese – all purporting to show the device.

An Apple spokesman said: “All the images are genuine, even the one where it looks like a a busload of Scouts.

“Thanks to cutting-edge technology smashing the laws of physics, the iPhone 5 will constantly shift on a molecular level – becoming big things, small things, inanimate objects and animals.

“These transformations will happen completely at random and without warning, so that no one can copy the design.

iFanbois packing *4 inches* now

iphone-5.jpg

The Verge wrote:Apple announces 4-inch iPhone 5 with LTE, Lightning connector, September 21st release date

The new iPhone is finally official. Apple has named its sixth-generation smartphone the iPhone 5 and Phil Schiller has detailed its full set of features, specs, and release details. Measuring 7.6mm in thickness and 112 grams in weight, this is the thinnest and lightest iPhone that Apple has ever made, and is constructed "entirely" out of glass and aluminum.

...

And yes, it has a 4-inch display! The new screen resolution is the oft-rumored 1136 x 640, meaning the display of the iPhone 4 and 4S has simply been elongated, both physically and in terms of pixel rows. To quote Phil, "you see, we're able to add a fifth row of icons." All of Apple's own software has been updated for the new resolution and screen size, while third-party apps will be letterboxed where necessary. Also in line with pre-launch rumors, the new iPhone's display features in-cell touchscreen technology, integrating the touch sensors right into the display itself. This should make for a thinner panel overall, though Apple also touts it as "the most accurate display in the industry."

Also: new connector thingy, no iPad mini.

Much iFapping going on today nevertheless, methinks.

I was expecting the IPad Mini :-( something readabul but fitting in a pocket :-(

Also, I noticed this little detail in the 5/4s specs:

GSM/EDGE
UMTS/HSPA
-
CDMA EV-DO Rev. A2

-
Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n; 802.11n on
2.4GHz)
Bluetooth 4.0
GPS and GLONASS

I didn't see any option to disable the GPS to rely only on GLONASS :-(

iPhone 5 LTE and tethering support

Postby BigInJapan » Thu Sep 13, 2012 6:16 pm

From an interview with KDDI's president Tanaka on IT Media (Japanese).

KDDI announced that the au version of iPhone 5 will support LTE and tethering (without jailbreaking).
So, tethering will be possible, but, according to Tanaka, one weakness of CDMA2000 is that it cannot handle the simultaneous transfer of voice and data.
However, when KDDI's LTE base stations are upgraded to LTE-Advanced in the future, you will be able to transfer both voice and data simultaneously.

My parents had a Moskvitch, but that was 1975 or so, so it only came with a built-in peasant with a copy of the Red Army Strategic Map of Western Europe.

Wackypedia wrote:The factory, which had been renamed to OAO Moskvitch (Moskvitch Joint Stock Company) in the early 1990s, filed for bankruptcy in 2002 and ceased production. The factory remains idle and abandoned, everything left as it was in 2002. Unfinished bodyshells remain on the production line in various stages of completion, while furniture, computers, office supplies, and documents remain in the plant's administration building. Several attempts to restart production have been made over the next 3 years, but none were successful.

Recently, a portion of the abandoned plant was acquired by OAO Avtoframos, a 38%-62% joint venture between the City of Moscow and French automaker Renault SA. In 2005, Avtoframos commenced assembly of Renault Logan sedans from imported complete knock-down kits (CKDs). The presence of Avtoframos brought new life to a small part of the facility, but the majority of the sprawling plant remains abandoned, apparently still owned by the dormant Moskvitch company.

The bankruptcy of OAO Moskvitch was officially announced in 2006 and the company was liquidated the following year.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moskvitch

Looking through that page brings me to the Aleko, which looks suspiciously similar to the 2nd post-Moskvitch car my parents owned, and looky there:

Wackypedia wrote:The car originated as a front-wheel drive "proof of concept", based on foreign models. In the late 1970s Moskvitch bought about two dozen compact cars built by different manufacturers, and thoroughly tested them. French and Swedish cars were favored for their utility and reliability. The final decision was made by the Minister of Automobile Industry, who surprisingly for the factory chose the French Simca 1307 as the best candidate for the Soviet market.

The one my parents owned was the genuine Simca, branded in the UK "Chrysler Alpine" mind... I did wonder why it came with a guy in a beret and an onion necklace...

Yeah, that trademark clusterfark caused few troubles to Renault when then exported Alpine Renault sports cars to UK, but they bought back the right from Peugeot (which has been delisted from the CAC40 this week... bye bye cars for suckers).

Wouldn't dream of it, but was really surprised to see footage of the news conference to announce the release...a very small hall and only 3/4 full. I wondered whether people are becoming blase about the iPhone updates. Didn't seem typically c-Apple-tilistic behavior to me, but admittedly I know fuck all about this shite.

Now that the chief conjuror has popped his clogs...

BBC wrote:Viewpoint: Apple's iPhone launches no longer excite

Apple unveils the latest version of its iPhone this Wednesday. It will be the first since the death of Steve Jobs.

To mark the occasion the BBC asked Dan Lyons, Newsweek magazine's technology editor and creator of the satirical blog, The Secret Diary of Steve Jobs, to pen an article about the firm's progress over past year.

This is his provocative view.

Back in 2006 I launched a blog where I pretended to be Apple CEO Steve Jobs. My alter ego, "Fake Steve," had a good run, but I shut it down in January 2011 when it became apparent that Jobs was in poor health. Nevertheless, even now, I'm constantly wondering what Steve would think about whatever Apple is doing.

This week it's the iPhone 5. Everyone pretty much accepts that Apple will introduce it, and there have been so many leaks that everybody pretty much seems to know what it's going to be. Word is it will look a lot like the last two versions of the iPhone, except a bit thinner and a bit taller, with upgraded guts and a refreshed operating system.
iPhone and Galaxy S3 being held Samsung's Galaxy S3 is outselling the iPhone 4S in some countries

If that's correct, I imagine Steve is not happy. First of all, he'd be furious about the leaks. Steve liked surprising people.

More important, is this really the best we can expect from an outfit that claims to be the most innovative company in the world? This is the sixth version of the iPhone, and the user interface still looks almost exactly like the original iPhone in 2007.

The hardware on the iPhone has been the same for two years, since the iPhone 4 and 4S were virtually identical.

Now, having had two years to plot and scheme, Apple's renowned designer Jonathan Ive has replaced the tiny 3.5in (8.9cm) screen with a slightly-less-tiny 4in (10.2cm) screen? Wow. Knock me over with a feather. What do you do with the rest of your time, Jony?

The article was kinda what I thought.

I bought Macs in the early to mid-90s and an iTouch when it first came out in 2006 or 7. The Macs were great, but it became too hard to get software, so I turned over to Windows, lost the ability to keep up with technological changes and became a technophobe. Tried to rectify that a decade later with the iTouch, which was great (and I used a plug-in mike a Skype to make it an iPhone before the iPhone had even been released). The only real problem was, iTunes fucked all the other software on my computer.
Am highly unlikely to ever buy an Apple product again, but that's as much to do with the fact that I'm destitute and increasingly less materialistic as it is to do with Apple being among the world's most ruthless capitalist thugs (outside of the military-industrial-financial-lobby complex) and bringing out shit that deceives sheeple.
I hope they have a few more failures and people develop a slightly healthier skepticism.

Additional disclaimer: I do own an iPod touch, and several Macs, which I'm very happy with because they do what I need, but if Apple continue iOSifying OS X, they might not do that any more.

iTunes... meh.

Nope... That new connector thing is stoopid... and the 4S still powerfull enough for porn streaming in the loo...

As for ITunes... BURN THAT SHIT IN HELL...

I nearly stopped listening to music at home because step one would be "Open ITunes" who will want to sync with IDevice, upgrade some shit then upgrade the library, then, then.. aww fuck it...

(Before that I always had music playing in the background, a stereo set with me had an expected lifetime of around 2 years... without being turned off once)

Mobile suica in a city without subway is not exactly mandatory...

Now the new IPod 5G... I will certainly buy it ASAP for all my games (the 4g is bit slow and and excellent alarm clock...)
Despite the fact that it's shaped like the new IPhones while the 4G was still the nice same round-back shape as the IPhone 3GS...
