Foreign company doing biz in JP vs K.K.

Postby Cyka UchuuJin » Tue Sep 25, 2012 9:55 am

I need to do one or the other pretty quick-like. A few people here are doing the 'Danish business operating in Japan' route and it seems to work ok for them. Is anyone here doing that or does anyone know what the pros/cons are of doing that vs setting up a K.K.?

Or alternatively, anyone know a good business lawyer that has experience in this kind of thing?

I'm doing a US biz in Japan but I was able to setup a kojin eigyo bank account with the company name on it. (US company owns Japaneeeeze trademarks and the official stamped trademark certificate was enough to convince a bank it was legit) Anyhow, point is, make sure if you do the foreign company in Japan route that the money never stays in Japan or the tax peoples will demand satisfaction.

Thanks Choko. Everything will be run through Denmark, especially the billing side. What I have to do is get something set up so that we can legally import, and then when goods go to end users, we bill them as we do now...from Dk in Euro.

Ha. You are as bad as the Danes who ask why a Danish company would hire a non-Dane.

Why not start out with a JV/tie-up?

Wouldn't it be in your best bet to do the billing in Japan? Not sure how it works in the Danish, but on the J-side, I get tax write-offs galore... things the US government would laugh me out of the taxation office (and into prison) for.

Take this w/ a grain of salt, BUT:
As for the bank account thing, you can probably use a "personal" account for business affairs as long as that account is only used for business, and on the tax papers at the end of every fiscal period it shows up as a transfer of assets. I'm pretty sure the person who owns the account must be a partner of the firm. For example, I am listed as 'supreme ruler' on my company's file.
