Fixed that for you... And I avoid shops with unpaved parkings since I don't even have a plastic engine undershield/skidplate... (euro spec only :-( )

Back to apple, this connector shit is extremly stupid. If they want to keep monopoly, just put ID chips in the wire. But meanwhile a lot of carmakers were starting to provide direct 30pin IPhone plug to their infotainment systems.

And while it also screw up all present accessories (VGA/HDMI/LED projectors, HIFI devices, anything with a craddle) but they can be replaced... You'r not going to replace your Audi or Beemer because of a new IPhone. Plus it will take one or 2 years before they start providing the new plug. If they don't choose to go the standard USB way basically telling fuck you to apple...

This is really the kind of bullshit that was barely acceptable with Jobs (but there was always the phear that i would come to kill you in your sleep at night if you complained)... But with Cooks...c'mon... fuck that guy...

I just hope this connector is strong... because if it's also a POS, heads will have to roll... It was good to create a semi monopoly/locked market with a proprietary connector. Now if they start changing said proprietary connector every other year... Fuck them... I already went through the HELL of SCSI interface and their countless physical shape, I'm not going back to the adapter cable hell, I still got a box full of the SCSI ones...

There's capitalist.

And there's stupid.

Putting a special wire, changing the crypto or making other pay to acces the specs: GOOD

Changing the shape of the connector for shit and giggle and selling a few bucks adapter for the old wire... : Totally stupid in Apple's price range. They are not chinese brand bottom feeder where 3 bucks literally double the price of what they are selling. They put the pricetag they want on what they sell. Like their change on the magsafe adapter shape. Stop these shit, it's understandable from Chinatronic who build their devices from whatever spare parts are the cheapest.
When you invest in expensive audio accessories build around the Ios Devices and when your brand is succesfull enough to have major makers to run circles to make accessories for your product only, you don't start fucking around. The guy with a brand new Beemer who know there is an IPod plug in it and the car interface is designed to use all the Ipod function right from the stering wheel controls (including siri for the last MMI) You don't go pissing that guy off with the need of an adapter that will never stay unplugged to the good end of the wire... (trickle down purchase)
When you reach certain price/brand levels... There's shit you should not have to deal with.

When we had the kraut we expected the garage to send someone with a replacement car to pick it up for every check up.
Nissan, I'm fucking jumping for joy since they let me stay in their aircooled showroom when I bring it for maintenance. Last time I even had orange juice and cookies (for free)... best... day... ever...

Summed it up perfectly..twice! Your first sentence is perfectly wrong...Apple products are essentially Chinese-made. And they don't double the price...I dread to think how many thousand percent markup is made on Apple, which shows your second sentence is perfectly correct.

They're super-duper, down-to-the-fucking-core evil...using slave labor, gouging customers and, worst of all, not giving me even the tiniest cut of their phenomenally successful global scam.

Actually, CSTaylor was right the first time.

Android apps suck pretty hard as there are so many issues with the platform. For devs it is a nightmare. The biggest issue we have is that there are really strict limits on the size of apps that can be installed. Our apps are HUGE and so we need to use a client server set-up for Android which is less than ideal for anywhere outside Japan. But the differences in OS for the variety of hardware out there is a nightmare to navigate.

So it is not just the sheep argument. Sure there are plenty of Apple fanbois/apologists but there are lots of things in Apple's favour from a devs perspective. Technically the platform is mature and the screen sizes and specs are consistent but the main thing is that Apple users tend to actually buy apps which makes it a much more attractive option than for Android where the general user is not inclined to pay for apps. So why make an Android app that only a few people will buy, when you have a better return for effort if you make an iOS app.

That is just my opinion.

Don't get me wrong: Android 4.1 is a great platform... too bad the vast majority of Android phones don't run it.

I just updated to iOS 6 in my iPhone 4. I hate to just repeat what everyone else is saying but the map sucks ass. It doesn't list intersection names or give detailed lay outs of subway station exits which makes it fucking worthless for navigating Tokyo. Fuck you, Apple. If this weren't a company phone, I'd get an Android tomorrow.

iOS 6 - "NaviGate"...

I was debating switching from my Android to the iPhone 5, but after all the brouhaha surrounding this NaviGate as a result of Apple releasing iOS 6 and letting their users be the beta testers for the new map app, I'll be holding off for just a tad (and Android 4.1 is looking pretty slick anyway). There is talk of Google maybe putting out an iOS map app (Google maps were "baked in" up until now, so no app) in the blogosphere, but according to Eric Schmidt of Google, no plans of yet.

GG, for what you're doing and from your perspective, I totally agree with what you're saying....but from an end user perspective, it's virtually the opposite. Tons of free Android apps (vs. paid Apple apps) that actually seem to work properly and quickly. Maybe it's just a Japan thing but all my friends with iPhones are always having problems with apps erroring or not functioning properly in one form or another. My only real complaint with Android phones is (unlike Apple) the carriers here tend to preload them with a bunch of shit apps you will never use, can't delete, and they basically just slow down the phone. Since most of the JDM handsets aren't sold overseas, by the time the otakus figure out how to root a model so you can remove all those crap apps, it's pretty outdated. On the other hand, I got my friends old android handset when she switched to the 4s. For a year old phone, it's not bad...4.7in screen (BIG) with 3D, camera and hardware on par with iphone 5, waterproof, iC card ability, and last week they released an upgrade to 4.1

Are you really blaming Apple for Softbank's terrible cellular coverage? Try an Android phone on Softbank's network and watch them fall over too.

There's that too (I hate Softbank) but most of the complaints I've heard were from friends on AU's network.

Nice try but as usual you fail miserably.

It's a company phone and we are required to update everything so go fuck yourself. Even if that wasn't the case if I didn't get the latest OS, I wouldn't be able to use the latest version of some apps.

I know how to use Google maps via Safari which is fine for most situations. However, an app I use a lot now takes me to the shitty Apple map instead the Google map making the app a lot less useful.

I don't do dev... but making an app already incompatible with pre IOS6 os seems quite a feat... (or more precisely... some dev would deserve to be jobless)
From what I read, the normal support barrier is pre IOS4.3.

4.2.1. The SDK has stopped supporting older iOS versions so really it is forcing devs not to support them either.

So if you are on a first gen iPod etc you are screwed unless you save out copies of your binaries for later outside of the iTunes format. If you update iTunes apps they will overwrite your older binaries so there is no way to get them back.

I knocked up a little webpage the other day to show people how to do this. It is a really rough page I know so no need to criticize it.
