Come be our Au Pair in Japan!!!!
Hello!
Thanks for your interest to be our Au Pair. We offer an unique Au Pair experience since there is no childcare involved and it is Japan which is rare to find. Hopefully this webpage will answer all of your questions about this position and if not please leave a comment and we will make sure to include your question in our FAQ.
Our ideal Au Pair will be someone who loves to cook and is good at cleaning. These are your two main responsibilities. We live on an organic farm so if you want to help in the fields that is a major plus but not required since we need cooking and cleaning help the most. The position is fairly simple otherwise with lots of free time for the Au Pair to study or pursue other hobbies and interests. In exchange for your help we provide free room and board plus a few other things (see below). We are results based people so you will not have a set schedule per se. Everyday you will have a list of chores to do. As long as the work gets done to a high standard, after that you are free to do as you wish. If you prefer to help out in the morning that is fine or if you are a night owl the evening is fine also. You will need to be independent and a self motivator since most of the time you will be by yourself.
Responsibilities of the Au Pair
-Cleaning and upkeep of a 5 bedroom house. This includes some heavy duty house work especially at the beginning but should become easier as long as it is maintained. Currently we have a maid come in weekly though whose responsibilities you will take over.
-Cooking 3 meals a day. Does not have to be Japanese food, any cuisine is fine!
-Before days off cutting up vegetables for future meals.
-Preparing a biweekly menu.
-Preparing a daily shopping list (we buy meat and fish fresh only daily).
-Photographing of products and uploading them online.
-Reorganizing the house.
-Packing for the move (we are moving to a bigger place in a few months!). Although we will hire actual movers for the moving day so no worries about heavy boxes we just need preparation help.
-To be independent. Most of the time you will be on your own. Since you only help out a few hours a day you will have a lot of free time to amuse yourself. Use this time wisely.
-To not break any Japanese laws and always be polite while in public.
-Helping out with children`s parties three times a year (Cherry Blossom Season, Halloween, and Winter Holiday).
In exchange for all this the Au Pair receives
-A chance to live in Japan in exchange for room and board.
-A working visa and a salary for full time work.
-A flexible helping schedule with lots of time off to travel and sightsee and lots of time during the day to go to the beach or study.
-Experience with various types of Japanese companies.
-A wide variety of fresh organic fruits and vegetables.
-A small plot of land to garden if the Au Pair desires.
-Japanese and/or English lessons paid for if the Au Pair desires.
-Cooking classes (when available) paid for if the Au Pair desires.
-Discounts on hotel and travel expenses.
-A bicycle to borrow to explore the neighborhood with.
-A cell phone to borrow.
About us
Our house is on an island {Awaji Island near Kobe} connected to the mainland of Japan via bridges. We live on an organic farm on the waterfront with cows for neighbors up the hill. Although it sounds rural it is very convenient since from our bus station we can go pretty well anywhere in Japan we want on a direct bus. We are a couple in our 30`s with no children. He works in IT and was a drummer in a semi-famous band at one time. We have many drum sets in our house thanks to him! She is a former Au Pair herself and currently an entrepreneur with a few different businesses. Both of us work on average 16 hours a day so we really need someone to come help us so an Au Pair is a good match for us!
