Perhaps this is saying that some women will not be bought or sold for any amount of money. Dear Daddy doesn't know his daughter well enough obviously and thinks that throwing money at the "problem"* will solve it. Not everything is solved by cash.

Sounds like there are plenty of blokes who are prepared to sell their souls though. Not all gold diggers are women it seems.

Sure you have a point here but in traditional deals, all parties have been willing participants - generally speaking. Here the father is trying to sell off his daughter into heterosexuality which is something that is clearly not her choice. This is morally repugnant (IMHO) and anybody who participates in a morally repugnant act is (IMHO) selling their soul.

Sad that in this day and age, people are still so ignorant about the human condition.

It surprises you? Look at the Senkakus. Afghanistan. We're no better than our predecessors. In fact, we've got more toys, more information to sift through and decreasing ability to do so objectively, so we may be even more ignorant and getting worse. I've never seen greater ignorance than a train carriage full of people with smartphones. (EDIT: Actually, I have seen greater ignorance than that, but it didn't really fit in the context of the rant I was having in this post.)

If she and some dude made a deal to go through with the marriage just to get the money and split it, what's wrong with that? The only person I see who is a scumbag here so far is Daddy Warbucks. And in traditional deals the two people getting married (especially the girl) often weren't willing participants.
