Meanwhile, on another chart, Japan is 43...

...According to a report by Booz & Company, a consultancy, if female employment rates matched those of men, GDP would increase by 5% in America and 9% in Japan by 2020...

Seriously, as much as I love offices full of p00n fighting for the alpa male or mud wrestling for fun at lunchbreak...

How do you come up with such a graph ? Where do you get real evidence to back up these things... Who came up with the concept (i might have to read the article to discover it....)

It's like these graphs

Let's put together some numbers and bars to match the outcome we want... sort of...

Getting more J-women into the workforce would actually solve a few problems for J-land... an increase in the tax paying, nenkin contributing workforce that is not sourced from the foreign barbarian shores, speakee da lingo and also prepared to accept lower wages and do the crap boring jobs.

But this is difficult for a few reasons - social pressure from the families, schools etc that expect that the J-womenfolk stay at home, pressure on govt childcare resources and the deep held belief that the contributions of the ovarian-challenged to the workforce are marginal.

Ironically, I have met quite a few women via my Mothers groups who are only working part time or are stay at home who are bilingual, highly educated yet sadly unmotivated to go "back to work" due to the shit pay and lack of career opportunities.

Nothing ironic at all. What's the point? It's good at least some of these women can choose to work. Others don't have the same luxury.

J-woman, married, kid/s... still living in Japan despite not much opportunity for her own career..

Why, you ask?

Ummm where do I start.. For starters, I shall let you into a little secret - despite it being 2012 and women actually allowed to vote and live in a country where burkas are not mandatory, there are still significant differences in the freedoms enjoyed between the genders - on average. Not just financial but social as well.

Whether you know (or care) about this or not, it is still a fact and I don't have the time or the opportunity to provide the evidence. So lets just accept it as the baseline.

She may not want to become an exile from her own country for personal reasons plus she may not want to be separated from her parents or friends etc. Her husband (lets assume she is married) may not have opportunties outside Japan. She may not want to move kids away or she may not want to be separated from them if she goes alone. There are so many reasons and most of them generalisations and yes there will be exceptions to all of them.

Women are expected to take the reigns in child rearing by family, schools and by employers - this is whether she wants to or not and this is also whether or not she is in a relationship with an equally capable partner (husband or otherwise - damn PC language is hard to navigate).

Ranting on a BBS is not going to fix or solve anything so I will stop here. But just realise that it is not as easy as just saying - "fuck it I am getting the hell outa dodge".

Agree - So much stuff on the net these days. I am always doing some course or another. Some for personal reasons and others professional.

Personal:
I am currently doing a montessori home organisational course for creating home projects for learning etc. And also a positive parenting course. I just finished an exercise intensive training course too. I was doing a running program too but have had visitors so haven't kept up on that for the last few weeks. Plan to get back into it soon. Might aim to do a 10k sometime next year.

Professional:
I am thinking of doing the JMEC lecture series - not the business plan part as I really don't have the time to commit to that.

I, like nearly every other heterosexual man in history, am pussy whipped.
Japanese woman copping it tough is a myth (and I'm not saying "Miss" with a lisp here). They have got guys wrapped around their finger like women have men doing their bidding across the world and throughout history.
Women are shitloads smarter than men. Always have been, always will be. They work harder, achieve more and make the whole world go around. If guys were left to their own devices, we'd still be in the Stone Age. Women shit all over men (literally in most European cuntries). Japan is no exception.
If women and men are paid differently for doing the same job (and, I assume, achieving the same results), the situation needs to be rectified.
Now, having said that, women have to get some home truths, too.
* Women are devious and manipulative in the workplace in a manner men aren't. Many women will use sex, and their sex, as a weapon. This is as big a problem as sexual harassment, for mine. How do you deal with it? Wouldn't have a fucking clue....
* Women fucking cry and get what they want. I have cried on the job in two jobs; in one case probably deservedly so, and in the other because in my early 20s when I was still a kid and doing a job I had no idea what I should have been doing, I was caught out being a devious little shit toward a business partner who had been very kind and fair with me. I was fired almost immediately after doing so in both. In either case, if I was a woman, I could have sued and would never have to worry about money for the rest of my life. Because I'm a man, I'm unemployable because I'm regarded as a risk and unethical.
But, I have to admit, women work much better than I do. I have been carried by good women throughout my life and almost invariably treated them like shit.
I guess I'm glad to find the best way to have a cunt is when it's between you're partner's legs and not your own.

Le mate, you've gotta be like me and show some sensitivity by cutting GG some slack.
She originates from a cuntry where every comment made about women is regarded as misogyny, a word that's lost its true meaning and become the equivalent to "racist," "sexist" or "pedophile" in Straya and now one of the most powerful weapons in the arsenal of wymmyn in their "battle" against men.

GG - let me rephrase the question to them...

"What the hell are you doing in Japan?" (Not suggesting to get the hell out of Dodge but asking why did they set up camp in Dodge to begin with?)

I totally sympathize with what you're saying, my point being, it's no secret how fucked womens are in this cuntry....so if a fruitful career is a priority to them, why did they choose to make a life here?

Hey Choko - I am not one of these women who are unsatisfied in their career or living in Japan.

I love it. I have a great family, an awesome kid, access to amazing childcare and I run my own company. I love my life here. Sure there are little quibbles but for the most part, everything is dandy. Sheesh - why do people assume I am some angry white chick all the time?

If you read what I wrote, it was that I have seen LOTS of OTHER women (mostly Japanese women) via my daycare and Mummys groups who have these sorts of issues. I am a total exception to all of these as I work for a family business so am protected from lots of these issues.

But they do exist.

So why are Japanese-women set up here in Japan? Um.. I dunno - perhaps as they were born here!!

GG - I know you're not one of em! I wasn't asking you! You're too awesome to be hating life here and I know you got your businesses going. I'm talking about the bilingual, highly educated professionals you spoke of. Unless they're going to create their own business or become a porn "star" here, they had to know the sacrifice they'd be making by choosing a life in Japan. It totally sucks for women that they'd have to make that choice in the first place and it is there that I sympathize...but it's the reality of Japan at the moment and we know how fast "change" is here. Being born here and having family here obviously factors in to their decision to stay in Japan but they only have themselves to blame for their situation if they are sitting at home, demotivated and hating how things are here.
