Japanese dramas

Postby Jack » Tue Oct 07, 2003 1:52 am

I posted earlier aboput J-pop music but now I am interested in Japanese dramas. Do you guys watch them? I like Japanese dramas, not because it helps me learn the language but because they are almost all contemporary and star some darn beautiful people. I watched "Love 2000", "Yamato Nadeshiko", "My Little Chef", "Utsukushii Hito" amongst my favourites. I like them all. How about you guys?

Which drama is hot now?

Good Luck!! was the hottest drama this year, where SMAP member Kimura Takuya acted as an airline pilot. Since it ended in March, there hasn't been much. Motokare staring Hirosue Ryoko and Domoto Tsuyoshi was pretty good. That ended last month though. This week, a lot of new dramas are starting but since I haven't seen many of them, the verdict is still out.

Other Kimutaku doramas that were good are Beautiful Life, Sora kara furu hyaku oku no hoshi (I think that's the title) and Nemureru Mori.

Other doramas that dealt with current issues that were interesting were Pure (dealing with mental retardation or autistic people), Saigo no Kazoku (dealing with dysfunctional families), the aforementioned Beautiful Life (dealing with the handicapped in wheelchairs), Taiyo wa Shizumanai (Dealing with medical malpractice) and Doku (Dealing with discrimination of SE Asians, particularly Viet Namese)...

Yes, these doramas were a bit melodramatic at times, but they did raise issues that regular J-folks don't pay much attention to...so I thought they were good, at least in bringing these issues to peepo's awareness.... :D

I'm sure there are others, but these are the ones that come to mind....
try or try not...there is no do......
