New IPad Mini

Postby Coligny » Wed Oct 24, 2012 7:22 am

Basically a shrinked IPad 2 with lightning connector. No info on the amount of ram... which is a bit weird...

But... but... but...

While everybody was looking sumwhere else...

They switched the Ipad 3 connector from standard 30 to lightning too... (basterd expect to see a lot of discounted BMW and Audis from people forced to upgrade)

Re: New IPad Mini

I skimmed through the iPad mini keynote speech, and the comparison with an unnamed similar-sized Android tablet definitely makes the mini look like a better choice (within Apple's force field anyway).
I'm not a fanboy for either in particular, having owned an iPhone 3GS, and currently using a Motorola Android phone, but I've been hesitant about getting a tablet as my main use would be:
1) reading e-books, 2) a bit of netsurfing, 3) and the occasional game - in that order.
I don't commute (work at home), or hang out in coffee shops etc., so I don't need a 9" or 10" unit to lug around.
The Nexus 7 was looking pretty good until I saw the iPad mini presentation, (then again, a lower storage, even cheaper Nexus 7 is rumoured to come out soon - hmm...).

I didn't either, but wound up getting one. It's pricey ,but it's a great Skype machine for work. The other side used to scream at me to mute my mic b/c it was so harsh (on my MBP). I dick around w/ it some. Not worth the dough but I enjoy it.

I'm looking at either this bitch or the Samsung (Korea takin' over the world) note 2 to replace my tablet and phone. (both have cellular capabilities and don't see the need to have one of both devices)

...kinda sucks they neither is waterproof though

AU's fall lineup includes the HTC J (aka butterfly, and it's waterproof) with the first 5.0" screen, and it looks like there will be lots more 5-inchers (with full HD 1080p resolution) coming in the spring.
Not much point squeezing more than 720p resolution into a smartphone screen as the naked eye really can't distinguish the pixels at that size. And as for the craze for bigger screen size, beyond about 4.5" they are just too big to fit comfortably in a pants pocket (and most females already complain they are too big).

Re using the 5.5" Note II phablet as a combo phone and tablet, I can see the point in terms of cutting down on equipment, and phone bills. But, personally I wouldn't want to have a conversation longer than 2 mins. on that massive unit, and I have fairly large hands. Now that tethering is available across the board in Japan, I am looking at getting a 7" tablet, and just pairing with my smartphone if and when use outside of Wi-Fi hotspots is necessary.

Nice, I'll have a look at that! (just hope it's not only offered on AU)

Cripes, now in addition to the Nexus 7, iPad mini, there is also the Kindle Fire HD from Amazon, all in the 7" tablet range.
Amazon announced the Kindle Fire HD (¥15,800) on amazon.co.jp today in Japan (non HD model is ¥12,800).
International Business Times article comparing the above three models and their merits.
Never really thought much about the Kindle before, but the Fire HD might be feasible after rooting (so you're not just limited to Amazon apps).

Yet another iPad mini competitor - the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Plus went on sale in Japan today.
This one is not Wi-Fi only, it's an Xi LTE service docomo-only unit (for now).
Sporting apparently the largest world’s largest organic EL screen, might be worth taking a look at (if it wasn't locked into docomo).

galaxy-tab-7.7-plus.jpg

It costs 87,990 yen through docomo's online store. With a subsidised monthly discount of 2,520 yen x 24 months (total 60,480 yen), total cost to the consumer will be 27,510 yen (cost info here).
It will be interesting to see how much a Wi-Fi only model will be.

I caved to buying a Samsung and traded in my iPad 2 for a Galaxy Note. I haven't looked back since. (I have coal shovels for hands)

If you are in the market for a mini-tablet get a quad-core Nexus 7, there is a reason they can't make them fast enough. The iPad mini-me is too little, too late and too expensive.

I wandered through Yodobashi and Biccamera, and the iPad 3s had indeed been reduced in price - to the same price as the iPad 4. Which strikes me as a bit pointless, as anyone who is not desperate for an iPad right now can wait a couple of days for the new model.

I'll wait and see if they have any stock left when the new one comes out.

Confusingly the current iPad 3 is branded as the "新しいiPad", so fuck knows what the new one will be called.

For people using Tablets as software plateform (ie as a tool) an not as an end in itself (ie awww shinyyy...)

Switching from ipads to something else is an interesting move. Just make you wonder why you got one from the start...

Kinda reminds me of something that happened to me the other day.
No. 4 comes over to me and says, "Ne, anata, why we never make love like in movies?"

Without further ado, I shoved her around, ripped her dress up and undies down, slapped her a few times on each arse cheek, grabbed her hair and dragged her head back so she could see me jack-hammering her. Once I'd gotten lubed up, I pulled out and shoved it up her bunger, then kept pounding away until climax approached. At that point, I withdrew, grabbed a clump of her hair and dragged her face toward my genitals, which I shoved into her mouth for a couple of thrusts before withdrawing and cumming all over her face.

She was as mad as fuck.

Turns out we watch different kinds of movies...

I'd like to drop-kick the first douchebag-hipster-wanker that came up with the 1st-world idiotic concept of the "drop test" video (probably with an iPhone first).
Along with filming retarded drop tests, putting electronics in a blender (WTF?), and unboxing are a few of my pet peeves.

Here's a slightly sarcastic take on the whole unboxing process...

The guy from the drop test: yes

The guy from the hauppauge video... not so sure... sometimes, device are such frustrating piece of shit rushed to the market that you have to stop the loss somewhere, for money it's too late, so cutting on time trying to make them work by destroying them is not such a bad move.

THere is a japanese brand of pci card (area or something) that churns turds after turds... I once tried their firewire card in a PC to network to a mac, she made sparkle and smoke when plugin, same for the replacement (they screwup the power management in the pinout). Those sucker answered me that they don't support macs... I rounded all the stuff from their brand and dumped it before having to face more explosions...
