40min Tokyo to Nagoya, as if anybody in Tokyo would want to

Postby Taro Toporific » Fri Nov 23, 2012 12:41 am

2027 Maglev bullet train carriage unveiled
Mainichi News | Nov. 22, 2012 -- A carriage of the Maglev bullet train series planned to run between Tokyo and Nagoya from 2027 was unveiled at a test line...The train will be capable of a maximum speed of 500 kilometers per hour...

According to the following NHK News video report (in Japanese), by traveling at 500 kmh (310 mph) the new maglev will be able to go from Tokyo to Nagoya in 40 minutes (as if anybody in Tokyo would want to go to tacky Nagoya  ).

Click to play video.

Japan Rail came up a real wienerwinner of an engrish name for their new maglev, the 'L0'---so you can G0 L0w.
For reference, the Shinkansen takes between 100-110 minutes to travel the 342 km (212.5 miles) distance from Tokyo to Nagoya.

On the wikipedia page it says the cost is 9 trillion yen with profit of 70 billion per year. That's a lot of zeros but google tells me it will pay for itself in 128 years. Is there really a private investor who takes that kind of a long view? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%C5%AB%C5%8D_Shinkansen

Did anybody notice that the new maglev Shinkansen doesn’t need a windshield?
JR plans to have it driven by Japanese fembots with multiple video feeds.

Based on the profitability of current railway tracks 128 years old, I severely doubt that the maglev will still be profitable in 128 years. This goes way beyond the concept of "the long view."

We (Zee French) discovered that after a certain speed, shield wipers become powerless... The solution is to do like for fighter jets, let high pressure wind blow the rain out of the way. Anyway, if there is a cow on the track, at that speed, you'r fucked anyway...

Would be better if it would bypass Nagoya.

Taro, there's something with your links. I can't get the video to play, neither do I get anything from the Asahi Shinbun.

The old Mainichi links from last year's post are dead. However, today's Asahi Shinbun link works just fine on several different Internet providers and system/browser combinations.

Maybe they're banking on all the people that want to get out of Nagoya, quick.

For the second time in 2 weeks, i had to go to Nagoya to baby sit mah student. And everytime i walked in feont of Nagoya station I was attacked/olfactorily gang raped by the most putrid stuck loo/backflowing sewer smell I ever encountered. I don't know if the whole city is like this, I remember this problem also happening in yagoto/mizuho ku. Certainly a problem with the weak ass rainseason they get :-(

I haven't spoken to my mom for the last 15 years.

But that may be because she wasn't alive during that time.

So, unless you have invented the technology to convert a skeleton to a living person, I believe you are not telling the truth.

Anyway, whatever, if you met her, pass my greetings to her.

There may a case a mistaken identity, though, since my mom was not exactly overweight...
