Keitai service after today's earthquake

Postby yanpa » Fri Dec 07, 2012 9:38 pm

Did anyone else suffer from reduced keitai service in the Kanto area following the earthquake this afternoon?

Emails between mine and the Mrs's au keitais weren't going through automatically (had to keep manually downloading them), and we were unable to call each other around 7pm. However calls to Docomo and landlines went through fine.

Everything seems to be working fine now (三陸沖を中心とした地震の影響について(復旧報:12月7日 19時35分現在)), but just wondering whether Docomo (or Softbank, haha) might be more reliable?

Didn't try to call anybody... :-(

But I overheard a lady on the street saying that the phones were out. This was a few moments after the quake. She was on a feature phone but I didn't look at which flavour it was.

So, now they have this service that automatically sends emails to all subscribers after a quake to ask for their whereabouts. After which the subscribers are supposed to reply...

Is there a more perfect way to take the mobile phone network out?!?

Apparently all three telcos did experience problems with reception to some degree.

And it seems that LINE experienced a 2x increase in message volume, with a 2.4x increase in voice calls, and no delays occurred.

NHK (Sogo a.k.a. peasant-vision) has some pop-up menu that one had to choose to opt out of being locked into watching the looped warning in Japanese, English, Chinese, and Portuguese, or be able to actually access stuff recorded on the HDD.
