Depends on the price you put on the transmitter. With a tower antenna and good line of sight the limit become more aboot your battery autonomy... (several dozens of KM) Usually for these range you don't really bother with FPV and use GPS autopilot instead.
Already a 40 bucks chinese 2.4 Ghz transmitter stock configuration allow to fly -way- beyond eyesight.

One thing that I don't know much aboot is how reliable is the use of GSM/CDMA/3G signal to control the airframe. With autopilot backup it might be ok, but it start to make a lot of junk to put onboard..
