I was watching the Simpsons last night (the only TV I watch anymore really) and saw an ad for some other reality show on fox built entirely around lewdness and cruel rejection. My question is, is there a TV station in Japan that is completely full of content like this, like Fox is here? I don;t know much about how Japanese TV is organized, other than that there are lots of broadcast channels, all broadcasting is semi-nationalized, and people have to pay a TV tax...or not, since the collectors apparently will just go away if you ask them. Is that last bit true? Anyway, what is TV in Japan like?

The only TV worth watching comes on after, like, 10PM. Before that, it's all cooking shows, panel based programs, etc. Actually, there are a few interesting shows that run in prime time, but not that many. Incidentally, lewd TV comes on after 10PM, hence the first sentence above.

Lewd TV after 10, eh? Same as in Europe, then. When does all the anime come on, anyway? Is any of it primetime?

I'm not too sure about anime, but I think it comes on later at night. You can always look at http://www.yahoo.co.jp to get the TV schedule for any particular day. Of course, it will be in Japanese, so I don't know how useful that would be for you.

my fam here has cable, and we have a channel devoted entirely to anime. i think it's channel 42.

Yeah, I know of such a channel in the US, but isn't the anime all dubbed into English? I hate that.

I am reading through the Japanese TV listings, I can read a fair bit of Japanese (500 kanji or so), but it's not like I recognize anything I am seeing. The World Cup seems to be taking up a lot of airtime.
