Announcement: The future of FG

Postby TentacleOfDoom » Mon Apr 01, 2013 8:46 am

As I'm sure you all know, FG.com has gone through some turbulent times during the past 18 months. Although the site is now back up and running on a stable technical platform, the long-term perspective has been unclear in these times of disruptive networking innovation, with an increasing number of internet users moving away from the freedom of independent albeit fragmented forums into the "walled gardens" of Twitter, Facebook et al.

However I'm pleased to announce that FG.com will be joining forces with an up-and-coming media company who are right now taking the English-language publishing market in Japan by storm. We'll be leveraging our respective synergies to buld a new kind of hybrid print/online platform, with FG.com providing the technical underpinnings for the print magazine's new website. This new venture will be branded "FG@m2tokyo.com", ensuring FG.com's rich cultural heritage will be preserved while building the new on-message cross-platform multi-channel mediaspace experience which 21st century Tokyo deserves.

And the good news just doesn't stop coming! I can't name names yet, but as part of the new deal FG.com will be expanding its headcount. We will be welcoming a trained journalist to the team, who will be building on his experience as a global correspondent with insider knowledge of the Tokyo music scene to ramp up FG.com's editorial coverage. Look out for his first article on how to deal with a "Tsuyoshi Kusanagi"-style situation, a problem many FGs will encounter at some point in their lives. We'll also be bringing on-board a renowned social media expert who will be holistically market FG@m2tokyo.com in Web2.0 and Web3.0 spaces as well as providing in-depth reports and photojournalism focussing on Japan's marine mammal-orientated tourism industry.

Please join me in welcoming this exciting new development and watch this space for new announcements during the exciting transitional phase!

Shhhhh.
Don't tell everyone about our top secret, "together over a bottle at ... Monday morning drinking sessions to hash out issues and finally lay the spectre of paranoid bullying in Tokyo to rest..."

Why not take the easier option? Play up a little, enough that the authorities are pissed off with you and gently lock you away, then a third party busybody who sells "like" clicks, "friend" clicks and retweets for cash can crowdfund YenYenYenYenYen! All problems solved!
