Is violent crime on the rise here in Japan? {title edited}

Postby pragmatic » Thu Apr 25, 2013 3:56 pm

According to the news today there have been 27 fires in in Aichi prefecture over the last 30 days. All of these are suspected arson due to the pattern they were able to figure out. Why violent crime is in the rise here in Japan? To be honest, I don't feel safe anymore here.

Arson of itself is not regarded as violent crime (which is defined as criminal acts that result in harm to people).

Yes I think violent crime is much lower in Japan, but I have encountered situations where Japanese men between the ages of 17 to around 50 have given me looks like they were going to do something for no reason other than they may have something against a brother going around in Tokyo , little that they know that I was well trained in the use of deadly self defense tactics by uncle sam.

Also I know one thing, a lot of crime I've seen on JapanToday if was done in Los Angeles by Japanese nationals, many of the perps by the way LAPD deals with such crime, would have not made it to a LA county cell, if not detered by going to a hospital or morgue. Case in point a long while back a Japanese man plowed into a crowd of people with his truck in Akihabara, attacked a keystone with a knife, and tried to run, If he had tried to run after such a crime, the odds are LAPD would have put much lead into him, and delay calling an ambulance since he attacked an officer.

I never start shyt, but I know how to deliver deadly force. Also I know that in Japan, even defending yourself can cause a lot of legal situations by the Japanese authorities, which makes it not worth it. BUT when I worked for base security I was under sofa, therefore if something happened, which never did for me, luckily (but I know of many cases with other peeps) could call my SCC and they would come out or dispatch an assistant to MAKE sure all legalities are followed fairly. ( some special unit officers can carry guns off base, and some special unit officers at the embassy can too; Japanese dont want to fuck with those guys)

Now all I have is a veteran card and a gaigin card so I try to avoid problems as much as possible. As long as they keep the violence as "Japanese only" then I need not worry.

There are many cases I have read long ago when I was active duty, from the embassy and the base on "gaigins" having "unprovoked" problems. There was a white navy retiree living in Yokosuka back in 91 who had repeatedly experienced violence from his 3 neighbors...I wish I could find it online...and he finally "snapped" and took matters into his own hands...my friend who was his yokosuka brig cell gaurd told me " he walked" as he laughed about it..ofcourse this is rare ...but like I said I have seen stacks of such cases of violence related paper work back then when I was in the mil.

I think a lot of these racist punks have in their sick minds that if they get into it with a gaigin, the keystones will back them up, but on the base this concept usually doesn't fly. I recall one night I was in Roppongi back in the days, and an african and a middlee astern were getting into it big time, it got nasty so I called on my cell phone the roppongi keystones who spoke english quite well, and I know many may not believe this: they asked me "are Japanese involved", I said no, he then said "we dont care" and hung up. Like I said many who may view this post may not believe it...but its true I wish I had recorded it somehow...

'Scuse the stupid questions, but presumably "sofa" here is not meant in the sense of an informal item of seating furniture? And who or what is your SCC?

sofa stands for status of forces agreement, and SCC is the acronym for back then for security contact commander for a particular security unit,depending on its activities, i.e. BDOC, NCC, or SMO but I heard the the old acronym has been long replaced, each branch has a different acronym; which I dont know off hand this was used in the 90's.

I dunno about violent crimes but the latest documentation from the US embassy says prison populations are steadily increasing and the amount of fraud/theft is a large portion of it.

Nobody's tried to blast my legs off with a wired-up rice cooker yet, so it's safer than my home town.

Yeah, well even before the attack, we averaged more teeth than toes. Let me know when Ole Miss reaches that standard of living.

Considering the murdering spree that has been Chicago for the last while, Japan is pretty safe to me. I forget the last crime in my town in japan. Its been awhile. Usually traffic accidents and not much else.
