Drunk U.S. sailor gets onto a balcony, tries to break into a downstairs apartment, & falls to his death
JNN--Yahoo! JAPAN May 26, 2013 (goofy Google Translate)
The early Sunday morning of the 26th, a sailor of Yokosuka base decided to pay a downstairs neighbor a surprise visit. The drunk sailor proceeded to continue to drink a bottle of beer, hung over the veranda/balcony to pound on the window of the apartment on the floor directly below and fell off to his death.

(This sounds like a really stupid drunken idea gone bad, rather than the previous cases of malicious home invasions by US soldiers. )

Cops Chase Drunken US Sailor Off Building
sankakucomplex.com | May 26, 2013| (NSFW banner ads)
A US sailor has died under perplexing circumstances after trying to smash his way into the home of an elderly man from a 6th floor balcony, falling to his death when police arrived for some reason.
Police were called to the 6th floor Yokosuka city apartment of a 77-year-old unemployed man at 2:35AM after he reported “the man who lives above me is trespassing on my balcony.”
The man, identified as 24-year-old seaman second class Alex Spedia, was a US sailor stationed at Fleet Activities Yokosuka, which abuts directly onto downtown Yokosuka, and apparently enjoyed off-base accommodation, occupying the apartment directly above the man.
When police arrived they discovered he had broken the window of the man’s balcony window, and according to police “fell off the building” just after they arrived. The fall proved fatal.
Police say they found a whiskey bottle and other evidence of intoxication in his apartment, and shrewdly surmise that he may have been drunk. The fall itself was witnessed by another resident on the 3rd floor, who reported it as well.

Sounds like he was trying to break into the guy's apartment and then fell to his death when he tried to scramble back to his own balcony as the police showed up.

Police say they found a whiskey bottle and other evidence of intoxication in his apartment, and shrewdly surmise that he may have been drunk.

How much you want to bet that there is no autopsy performed but the cops will be able to tell you how many cm was the whisky bottle was from the door?

Let's see how long it takes the kids in Taiwan to make a snazzy 3D CG video recreating the event.
(Then again, not a celebrity so it probably warrant their time and effort...)

There's no way of telling if these are legit comments on JapanToday (but several times in the past people claiming to be relatives of dead gaijin have posted here on the FG Forum).

American serviceman falls to death from Yokosuka apartment
JapanToday.com
Kathy Spadea -- MAY. 26, 2013 - 10:16PM JST
my name is kathy, i'm his mother. i don't come onto social media, but i knew i would have to today. my son, Alex, collected alcohol and other types of bottles that he thought were cool, especially the ones in japan. he never caused problems and was always in for curfew. he was a polite respectable man. who would go out of his way for any person who needed help in any way. please don't pass judgement until we get all the details. for those of you that wished us condolences, we appreciate them greatly. our son was a model citizen in every country that he visited and loved learning about the different foods and cultures. He was happy being part of the military and definitely not depressed. He had his future planned out, yes, he was a man with a happy plan. we don't know why he was not on his floor, so please wait for the investigation to be finished. my husband, myself and his two younger sisters are in hell right now, please have some sympathy. <3
