New record! Japan is Number One! Japan had the previous record for radioactive fish last August of 25,800 becquerels of cesium per kilogram but now it's 510,000 becquerels/kg.

...Tokyo Electric Power Company, operator of the damaged Fukushima Daiichi plant says the rock trout contained 510,000 becquerels of cesium per kilogram.
That's the highest ever detected in fish and about 5,100 times the government safety limit...

The new record is about twice that amount.
TEPCO says it will step up efforts to keep fish within the port and exterminate them.

A new study offers fresh insights into how radioactive contamination from the Fukushima nuclear disaster may have spread through Japan’s interconnected waterways, reaching some freshwater fish hundreds of kilometers away.
The research by two Japanese academics published in “Nature” magazine late last month reports traces of cesium found in 2011 “even in Shizuoka prefecture, 400 km south-west from the plant.”...

I had a lemur get pretty upset with me the other day because I mentioned it might not be as safe as she thought to be scarfing down fish almost daily. I like eating fish as much as the next guy but even without radioactive contamination, eating it daily doesn't seem to smart with all the other crap they find in them (and don't seem to publicize here...)

I've found the latest weapon in Japan's fight against spreading radiation is righteous indignation, espoused equally powerfully by the locals and weaboo types.
The second there merest hint that radiation could be spreading attracts enraged vitriol and bile-spitting denials delivered with gale-force squeals of how incompassionate it is to express such opinions.

Another contaminated water leak at Japan's Fukushima nuclear plant

The operator of the wrecked Fukushima nuclear plant said it had found another leak of contaminated water on Wednesday, piling pressure on the utility to curb the problem as it seeks permission to release water to the sea. ...

Shunichi Tanaka, chief of Japan's new nuclear regulator, set up after its predecessor was discredited in the 2011 disaster, told a news conference that Tepco should deal with the problem immediately. But he said the regulator did not regard the matter as serious.

The latest leak was acknowledged after Tepco said earlier this week it had detected radioactive cesium in groundwater flowing into the plant -- overturning an early finding that contamination was negligible. ...

Tepco is also trying to construct a bypass that would route the water away from the plant and into the ocean. That plan requires the agreement of fishermen who oppose plans to dump 100 metric tons of groundwater a day from the plant into the sea.
