Slightly funny? Had me in stitches!
What a great performance! Freddie is fabulous. Details, glorious details.

This is humor from an age when viewers (audiences) didn't demand slam-bam instant gratification. When they could enjoy a story that grew over time and were prepared to be attentive and think about what is going on. These days if 2 or 3 minutes go by without an in-yer-face gag or a big explosion the kids are already glazing over.

"Dinner for One" is almost 18 minutes of live, unedited comedic brilliance, and it made my day.

OK, it must have been the genetic influence of my German great-great-great-grandmother who impaired my ability to roll down on the floor.

Granted, to keep the attention of the audience alive for 18 minutes is quite a feat these days.

For a start, it is practically unknown in the United Kingdom as well (Unless you were referring to Germany as the neighbour, which is a strong possibility). It is excruciatingly popular in German-speaking areas and Scandinavia. Those years when the Swedish cousins come for Christmas and New Year, there are two constants. Human beings imitating boiled lobsters, and Dinner for Fucking One. Don't get me wrong, there were moments where it raised a slight smile first time, but I stopped watching the same show again and again after age six. It is not so great on the ninth viewing.

You're saying that people watch that same skit every year at family gatherings?

That, I have to agree, is pretty masochistic. It's comedy, which by definition can only be really funny once. But it has probably just become wallpaper over the years.

Reminds me of a Christmas visit to Oz in 2007, I think it was. The relatives had the TV tuned to the same B&W "story of christ" or whatever the fugg it's called that I had watched back in the late 50's and early 60's. Just wallpaper for Christmas.

Oooh, yeah....

I don't think it qualifies as wallpaper if they are tensing up in anticipation of yet another hilarious leap over a tiger's head. Oh, how we laugh!!!!!!

OK, that in itself is almost comedy.

Weird ... but maybe it's better than trying to have an actual conversation with drunk, annoying relatives.

Yep, I was referring to Germany.

The UK is not our neighbor; the North Sea is.

That reminds me of the New Years concertos on Dutch TV with music of Johann Strauss in Vienna on Jan 1st, first thing in the morning, followed by the ski jumping in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Hmm. Brussels is not in the Netherlands.

Anyway, I am not aware of any tradition of chasing black people on Jan 1 in the Netherlands or Belgium.

No, no, no...they're not black people. It's not as insensitive as that. They're white people wearing black makeup and pretending to be black people.

But it's the Belgians anyway....I can sorta understand.

Could you stop disrespectfully using the picture of Vladimir Putin as an avatar. None of the untermensch you incarnate is worthy of his greatness.

i would suggest a toilet broomstick instead since you enjoy scooping shit.

Nope, I don't hate you, and would have been quite happy to have you and Mc Tojo at our last (albeit sub-par food wise) lunch. And there is not much truth to expose on asiaphile gaijin... You sound like Alex Jones "they want to censor and silence me because I tell zee trouth" well... beside having his on radio show and being a tv host from time to time, I'm not sure which definition he managed to put on the words silence and censor... but it aint the same as my in dictionnary...

AS FOR NISSAN... dood... without Renault the brand would not even be remembered on T-shirt... And with Carlos Tavarez slowly but surely putting that asshole of Gohsn in early retirement just be happy that only Datsun become their budget brand instead of the whole Infinity/Nissan/Datsun circus show with their cars boring as shit...

And yea, Renault is fucking precious... not a single company on this planet has done as much as they did for the progress of the social rights of the workers, then the protection and reconstruction of a country.
