Would you say that you were more cavalier in your use of fuel today because you had not heard the news? I think the answer in each case would be no. It doesn't really matter that you had a slight delay in receiving the news. In fact, it wouldn't matter if you did not hear the news for a week even.
If you free yourself from the "current" in current affairs, you can concentrate on the important information.
