No more nama ham?

Postby Samurai_Jerk » Tue Sep 03, 2013 7:03 pm

Maybe it's just the places I shop but it seems that over the last couple of years fewer places are carrying imported cured meats like salami, prosciutto, and coppa. Those that do have less of a selection. I've also seen a reduction in the variety of imported cheeses. How the fuck am I supposed to make a gabagool and fresh moozadell sangwich?

Even some of the high-end markets seem to have cut back on the variety.

Yep same was true in Kobe before we left. Oasis is a super there and they used to have cheeses my parisian friend couldn't believe they did. But then they started to phase it down over the last couple years. Doesn't make sense with the endaka..

I am far from being a connoisseur, but the selection at Eataly in Daikanyama impressed the heck out of me last time I was there. The prices impressed me too, in a not very pleasant way.

In Kobe the number of expats decreased significantly after 2008, and with it the variety of products from Europe and the US.

I usually buy my stuff at Profoods, which has a good selection, and they have managed to keep me supplied with real Gouda cheese in big chunks over all those years. Their shops are in Kansai, but they also have an online shop.

Nope. General trend. I can still get the stuff in Tokyo if I want it but I have to go further out of my way than I used to.
