(Kyodo) - Oct 28, 11:17 am
The Tokyo metropolitan government is eyeing a drastic revision of its ordinance on minors, including restrictions on children going out late at night, metropolitan government officials said Tuesday.
The metropolitan government asked its council on minors the same day to deliberate on an ordinance revision aimed at strengthening protection of Tokyo children from crimes.

Sounding more and more like a communist statehood than a democracy..

To hell with freedom, we have to save our kids. Let's put them behind bars so they don't make mischief.

Amen! Minors do not have the same rights as adults - hence the legal distinction between minors and adults.

And this curfew sounds like a reasonable policy. Nothing at all like the psychotic parents' groups cries for censorship or foam-padding of the world that goes on in the US. When's the last time a new playground in America had a set of monkey bars set up over a nice big patch of concrete like when i was a kid? It's not saaaaaafe. What if my kid gets huurrrrrt? Who will I suuuuueeee?

Curfews are a good idea. What business do kids have being out late on weeknights - or weekends for that matter - anyways? As long as the laws "for the children" don't infringe upon my rights I have no real issue with them - unless they're just stupid laws that waste taxpayer money. Which curfews do not.

That won't be necessary. According to this article, working girls are exempted from curfew.
The Guardian wrote:...Tatsuo Mizuno, head of child welfare at the Tokyo metropolitan government, says the regulations will not restrict freedom of movement.
"Teenagers who have good reason to be at these places during the curfew, say for work, will not be affected," he said.
"Tokyoites of all ages have lots of reasons to be out late at night...

They claim there is a curfew in Tokyo now. May I need to pictures of teen 'hos in front of Shibuya's police box, hee, hee.

When foreign children run afoul of the law
The Japan Times: April 15, 2004
...There are youth curfews in Japan, which are set by local jurisdictions. (It's 11 p.m. in Tokyo)....
.... Kids should also be warned against the so-called "legal drugs" sold openly in Shibuya and other areas where young people congregate. Sellers sometimes misrepresent their wares and foreign kids have been busted for buying what they thought were legal substances....
