KABOOM!

Postby yanpa » Sun Sep 29, 2013 12:03 pm

So there we were minding our own business on a pleasantly quiet Sunday morning after yesterday's undokai when all hell breaks loose in an explosive-ordnance-detonation kind of way. Somewhat curious as to why the neighbourhood is suddenly sounding like a war-zone, I look from the 2nd storey balcony and see some twat and his wife (at least that's the impression I got) standing in the middle of the field opposite with what looked like a very heavy-duty cherrybomb/firecracker launcher of the type one would imagine being for "professional use only" setting off the fireworks. I didn't hesitate to make my opinion known in best angry-gaijin-in-a-wifebeater fashion ("omaera nani yatteiru?!! Yamenasai") but by the time I'd made it outside to ask them up-close what the fuck they thought they were doing, they had disappeared.

They were clearly not part of the farming family who work one half of the field, and didn't look like they belonged to the people who use the other half as allotments, when we asked some of them, they said they'd never seen the couple before and that they'd just come into the field and said "it would get a bit noisy" without explaining further.

WTF?

The cops tend not to have a heavy presence in the middle of fields, whatever week it is.

They were fucking everywhere I went yesterday. Mostly in pairs, looking bored or staring off into nowhere, blowing whistles and shit.

So, is the traffic safety week just starting or finishing this weekend?

Didn't see any traffic cops last week.

Think it ends tomorrow. Down here they're checking the registration of all bicycles parked in public places and leaving patrolled tags on them.

If the kaboom happens at a particular time, like on an hour, it is likely to be to scare off birds close to harvest time. There is the 8 a.m. cannon here, and there, and over there, and just over here too, when various fruits are coming into juicy ripeness (like around about now).

In the previous place I lived they also had such canons in the past, but since people living around there complained, it was banned.

If this is the case, I recommend Yanpa to complain to the police.

Here it's C130 activity that is picking Up, always flying in close pairs...
But also got cannon last in summer time, all day long, only in the lost rice fields around the municipal hospital.

Also yeah if this is an isolated case, do as they do and complain a bit, probably not to the police but just to the neighbors and it will get around easily. When in Japan... I am outside a lot relaxing in the yard at night on weekends and heard a guy saying something like ”おい! おい!おまえこちにこい!おさけこい!こいいうたな? 聞こえない? BITCH!!” (hiragana used to protect the Colignys hope it makes sense) Something like that, don't remember exactly but it was not pleasant to hear on our street. Basically the equivalent of extremely verbally abusive Japanese from a husband to a wife. I asked my fam and was told "we have heard it too, no we don't do anything yet but if gets worse we start with the neighborhood." If you call the cops outright it makes you to blame and look bad. Subtle very subtle (and manipulative) this country.

Yeah it is very weird, we are getting single ones flying over a lot. Even my son who is 6 mentioned it today actually. No idea at all.

I did consider whether there might be some agricultural reason but like I said, they weren't the people who farm the field, which is full of juicy fresh cabbages right now. Also this being Japan, if they'd been outside bird-frightening contractors I'm sure they would have been all decked out in sagyofuku and would have at least taken the time to post flyers and knock on doors informing the neighbourhood that it was about to sound like it was under attack from Al Quaeda US drones. And if they'd been legit, I'm sure they wouldn't have buggered off sharpish and would have explained what was going on.

Japan blasts: One dead in Utsunomiya city
BBC | 2016-Oct~23
Multiple blasts in the Japanese city of Utsunomiya have killed one person and injured at three, emergency services say.
Police believe the blasts may be linked to an apparent suicide.
The explosions took place almost simultaneously at about 11:30 local time (02:30 GMT) in the city in Tochigi prefecture, north of Tokyo.
Two cars in a nearby parking area also caught fire at the same time, police said.
The Japanese broadcaster NHK says police found a suicide note at the scene, and one of the damaged vehicles was owned by a 72-year-old man, believed to be a former member of the Self-Defence Forces.
His house in the city of Utsunomiya had been destroyed in a fire shortly before the explosions, the broadcaster said.
The blast in the nearby park seriously injured two men, and a 14-year-old boy suffered minor leg injuries. No one was injured in the car parking area.

Saw this on the news last night. This guy blew up his house and car in different locations at the same time. The video showed both scenes were totally burnt out and very little remained. The car was parked next to a festival with a nationalistic theme. The cops say they they found a suicide note.

Did he scratch it into the sheet metal of the car? There was nothing burnable left, how did the note survive?

Something seems strange. No tinfoil hat or anything but things don't really add up here.

Apparently the note was stuffed into his sock.

There was a third explosion at a nearby park, and although the reports are a little confusing, I think it was that third explosion that killed him and injured passers-by. He had put shrapnel in the park bomb too. Nails and bearings and stuff. He clearly wanted to hurt people. Home-grown suicide bombing.

This will be a good one to bring up when people mention their fear of foreign terrorists ... along with the Akihabara stabbings, Aum, the Red Army, etc.

From the article Wags posted...

According to the National Police Agency, there have been 50 murders and attempted murders stemming from such arbitrary stabbing incidents since 1989. Suspects have been apprehended in 47 of those cases.

The highest number of cases in a year was recorded in 1996 with 11, followed by 10 in 1998. Three such stabbing incidents had been reported so far this year before Wednesday’s attack, the agency said.

50 indiscriminate knife murders (including attempts) in 10 years in a population of 125 million is not bad. I will take my chances. Chances are worse with people you know, rather than the random nutty stranger.

How many people died from bee stings in that time period? Let alone car accidents. I still drive a car and still walk as a pedestrian next to roads.

Forgot one!

There was the bombing of the Mitsubishi building in 1974 that killed eight and injured around 400. That was the East Asia Anti-Japan Armed Front. A Japanese group, despite the name.

Not exactly alarming for us but still sad....these guys nearly always turn out to be they same type of mental cases that were ignored/tolerated when should have been receiving psychiatric help (or just locked up) long before they acted out.
