The New Members Introduction Thread

Postby yanpa » Mon Oct 14, 2013 7:10 pm

New to FG? We are nicer than our reputation. Feel free to add some brief words of introduction to this fine thread so we can reciprocate with kind words of welcome (and call the ninjas off).

Welcome Nimp, hope you enjoy all this place has to offer.
When it all gets too much, it's good to bear in mind that we're all just generating cleverly arranged pixels on our screens. 8-)

In digital imaging, a pixel, or pel, (picture element. a physical point in a raster image, or the smallest addressable element in a display device; so it is the smallest controllable element of a picture represented on the screen.
You know, the little dots that cover the screen.
Occasionally one gets stuck, it can be annoying, but easily ignored.

But what you don't know is that the FG system uses the gaps between pixels to broadcast subliminal messages.

Good heavens no, quite the opposite. We are currently broadcasting imagery of an all-American 5-year old girl defending her house for democracy and freedom with a pink-painted assault rifle against an onslaught of Taleban mime artists.

I already figured you'd know what a pixel was, it was the "annoying but easily ignored," bit that I wanted to impart. 8-)

American in central Tokyo for 4 years. I've been an occasional freelance translator, but my current day job precludes me from doing much of it by being either busy or lucrative enough that I am unmotivated to seek translation work. I have a wife and young child, and I enjoy a variety of hobbies that are on long-term hiatus due to work, wife and young child (which are all great too).

Hi

I am not from the pot of the gaijin.
My favorite color is black and white.
They say that I am good with chopsticks.
Thought, I'd come and have a look, hope that's OK.

Therefore, hello

It would appear that my slightly warped sense to humor might get appreciated around here, t'was once described by a friend as being like "Boris Johnson on LSD with Tourettes".

Only came across FG from GP, lucky for me!
