FG incarcerated 14 months for parents being adopted

Postby Taro Toporific » Thu Oct 30, 2003 9:26 am

Immigrant freed after 14 months
The Japan Times: Oct. 30, 2000
OSAKA (Kyodo)
Immigration authorities released Wednesday a Chinese college student who was detained in 2002 because he had no blood ties with his Japanese grandmother.
The Osaka Regional Immigration Bureau released Takeo Yanagi, 21, on a provisional basis. Yanagi, whose Japanese grandmother stayed in China after World War II, came to Japan from China in 1994....
In 2000, the authorities confiscated Yanagi's permit to stay in Japan after it was discovered that his parents were adopted and that he was not a blood relative of his grandmother....

The JT story is a bit short of information. Where have his parents been living since they were adopted - Japan or China? I see that he's been in Japan since 1994, so they wait until 2002 to "detain" him? What the fuck's that about?

Clearly, immigration didn't have a fucking clue until somebody checked some piece of paper that said his parents were adopted. That means - for all intents and purposes - he'd been considered Japanese for the 8 years prior to his detention.

Looks like the only thing worse than a bureaucrat is a racist, xenophobic bureaucrat.

This is disgusting.

Screwing up some poor unfortunate's life so you can clear up some paperwork?

How could you sleep at night, knowing someone is in detention entirely due to your actions? Surely the matter could have been cleared up with a little more discretion.

It's not like he was even trying to get into the country illegally, he must of been about 13 years old (?) when he came here.

This is not a Japan issue. This is stupidity from overpaid public servants who are just doing their job. A little humanity and a little common sense would not go astray.

I agree, this problem of not thinking outside the box/rules is a problem of ALL public servants (actually I think these types of jobs attract the anal retentive types :?:  ) - however in Japan I believe this is taken to extreme :x Actually the school education teaches you to not think out side the box - the "smart" kids in Japan are very set on rules - whereas in the UK, smart people are usually the most flexible...... :? Does this say anything for the FGs that Japan attracts? 8O

Those two concepts are unheard of in the public sector of Japan.. from the post office to health care.. coppers to taxmen..

They are sticklers and most likely will forever be.. take a look sometime at your postal workers.. most of them look like that have a corncob stuck in the rectal region..

A rule is a rule is a rule is a rule in the eyes of a public servant serving in Japan.
:D

I have finally gotten used to their wing wang, I think.
