...some encouraging news from the world of regional Japanese TV. Wakayama TV has become the first TV station in the nation to air an antismoking commercial.
According to a report in Shukan Josei magazine, not only has a volunteer group in the region been successful in approaching the TV station and getting a commercial on the air, but 13 local organizations--including the local medical and pharmacists' associations, hospitals and pharmaceutical companies--have helped sponsor the ads. One provocative commercial shows a baby enveloped in a cloud of cigarette smoke produced by its father....
