What I don't get is that the train (an express) is at a station (a local-trains-only one) but the doors remain firmly closed. If they'd let us off I could take advantage of the furikae-unten possibilities they are broadcasting every 2 minutes over the station speakers

I am 250 Km away from the stationary trains. I just spent many many years in the care of the railway company with a discount deal on yellow paint.

Edit: and I see that a moderator corrects his typos with a ninja mod edit, while the rest of us plebs have our edits broadcast. This is what happens when you have time to kill on a delayed train.

My comment was admittedly lacking clarity but it was more to refer to tweeting at 8:41 that trains would move at 9:05, then not tweeting until 9:03 that trains will be moving at 9:20.

Yes, but I think what he was saying is that any and all edits made by us plebes is registered and displayed for all to see as "posted edited at...", while a mod/admin may do so stealthily. Yep, and I thought that yanpa had edited his post after there had already been another post in the thread. It may have been a timing issue, in that I typed my reply looking at the typo but my reply was actually posted to the forum after the typo had been edited. I'm not entirely sure about that, but I'm also not going to swear on a stack of any holy book you can name that it wasn't the case either.

I seem to remember that there was a station on one of the minor Tokyu lines where you had to exit through a limited number of cars, due to the short platform. But their system was set up for that, unlike this case.

No idea.

Though having done this commuting thing for the last 6 months, it's generally not so bad. 2~3 minutes daily delay are easy enough to plan for, and if it's raining I know the trains will be another couple of minutes late. Also I found out there's one train in the morning which is never crowded (I'm an octopus of few principles, but achieving a commute free of body contact is one of them), and they were one of the few lines to restart operations on the evening of the big quake.

Construction has now started on burying the section between Nogata and Nakai in a tunnel, which will hide the line from public view, and also hide the public view from paying commuters (I play a little game when I am bored, which I call "nominate the crappiest lineside building", luckily there is such a wide choice of candidates it will occupy me for years).

Few days back I was saved by a 人身事故. Was just a couple of minutes late to catch a train (next one going 20 minutes later), but fortunately it was delayed 8 minutes.
