German escapes police in Miyagi, put on wanted list

A 25-year-old German man was put on the nationwide wanted list Thursday after escaping from the Miyagi Prefectural Police.

The police identified him as Petro Vladimirovic Shchus, a self-described student with no permanent address. He broke out of the Sendai Central Police Station in Aoba Ward on Wednesday, they said.

The man allegedly escaped from the interrogation room on the fourth floor of the police station at around 4:10 p.m. after loosening a rope that had bound him at the waist while one of the officers in charge of the case had left his seat.

The suspect then allegedly “attacked” another officer attending the interrogation by pushing his arm away to get out of the room. A civilian interpreter was also present at the interrogation.

The man was not wearing handcuffs during the questioning. The door to the room had been left open.

It was unclear how he got from the fourth floor to the outside.

The morning shows were worse than usual with this one. They made it sound like a serial rapist was on the loose fucking victims willy-nilly. I was watching "Sukkiri" and they asked their expert whether or not the police were partly to blame for not securing the guy in the interrogation room. He said that they of course weren't because unlike gaijin Japanese tend to be otonashii once arrested implying there was no way for the cops to have anticipated such behavior.

Just been doing some number crunching. Perhaps someone can confirm my math.

There's an article in the JT implying that 5,423 foreigners were arrested last year (more than 90% of whom were legal residents). That sounded like a lot, so did a little digging.

In 2012 the total number of arrests (penal code offences) in Japan per 100,000 people was about 1,084.
There are approximately 2.5 million (legal) foreign residents in Japan, and 5,423 arrests works out to about 217 per 100,000 foreigners.

Let's review that ...
* Total arrests: Approx. 1,084 per 100,000 people.
* Arrests of foreigners: Approx. 217 per 100,000 foreigners.

Give or take a few for the illegals, etc.

I've been wondering about this for a while, and the numbers seem to bear out my suspicion that the ominous tide of foreign crime is a drop in the bucket compared to the homegrown stuff.

The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs estimate there are 54,000 JAPANESE people living in the UK. The Home Office estimate there are 16,000 UK GAIJINS living in Japan. There are many JAPANESE companies in the UK who make vast amounts of money. There are comparatively very few UK GAIJIN companies in Japan and they have only small market shares.

I don't receive, ask for or expect kindness. I have more than paid for my place here and all I ask is for equal and just treatment - the same as JAPANESE people enjoy in the UK.
