I can't believe the amount of air time Caroline Kennedy is getting here in Japan! I guess it is Camelot coming to Japan, but for Christ's sake, you'd think she was the second coming of, well, Christ! Not sure what her qualifications were, other than being a big donor to the Obama campaign, but watching the Japanese media fall all over themselves reporting about her, you'd think she was the greatest person in the world. I guess Japan really does love celebrities, of any kind!

Caroline Kennedy is not some vacuous rich woman. She is intelligent and has been a huge supporter of the arts as well as civil liberties. Her mother Jackie was the same and ol JFK was a bright man even if he didn't really write that book Why England Slept.
Not only was her father gunned down publicly in cold blood when she was a child and at an age when she could remember the event, but so was her uncle Robert who had his faults but was the last real hope for a mainstream political victory to prevent the ascent of tricky Dicky Nixon. Some of Caroline's cousins died tragically and young.
She hasn't had such a public profile because she is a modest woman. Apparently is a very decent human being.
Maybe the Democrats should have persuaded her to run instead of Hilary Clinton who may yet be trumped by The Donald.
I think both of them are poor candidates but Hillary's continual unashamed and unabashed lies in public and her standard cackle in response to being shown evidence of them is worrying. So was her cackling on camera when she heard about the death of Gaddafi and her gloating statements about it to the media.
I think a triumph by The Donald would be suitable karma for the Democrats promoting such a person for president.

And for that we will be forever grateful. Nice defence of her there by Wangta. Other than that shameless interference in Japanese domestic affairs to pander to The Cat Lady constituency, I think she is certainly no worse than any of the other airheaded dingbats they might have trotted out. Kennedy worship is tiresome, especially given how little they did after taking so much, but she certainly deserves not to be judged on the demerits of her besainted parents.

It's unfair to say Kennedy did little.
He escalated U.S. involvement in Vietnam to the point that withdrawal was impossible (he made a 16-fold <and illegal> increase of U.S. military advisors <officially non-combatants, but usually actual fighters>)and victory unlikely (by ordering the assassination of Ngo Diem Dinh), contributing enormously to an embarrassment that would trail only a civil war fought over slavery as the most shamed-faced moment in its history. (Self-pity over Kennedy's premature death, the ineptitude of many subsequent U.S. leaders, historical revisionism and embracing of the military-industrial complex have made Vietnam and Kennedy's involvement in it seem a little less awkward than it used to be).
