What's in a gene?

Chinese man sues wife after ‘ugly’ baby born

Image

Jian Feng filed a lawsuit against his wife in May after she gave birth to the couple’s daughter.

Upon seeing the “incredibly ugly” baby girl, he thought there was no way she could be the child of him and his “beautiful” partner, and initially concluded his wife had been having an affair. “I married my wife out of love, but as soon as we had our first daughter, we began having marital issues. Our daughter was incredibly ugly, to the point where it horrified me.”

When DNA tests proved the child was his, it then emerged that before Mr Feng had married his wife, she had undergone $100,000 (€77,000) worth of plastic surgery in South Korea where the decisive knife of a surgeon, not the gene pool, crafted her flawless bone structure.

The Northern Chinese man, according to a report from PlanetIvy.com, divorced his wife and sued her, apparently, for being ugly — and won.

Mr Feng has since been awarded $120,000 from his wife, as a sympathetic judge agreed she had tricked him into marrying her under “false pretences”. Since his wife used intense surgery to drastically alter her appearance before she met Mr Feng, and since she never told him of it, the courts determined that she had convinced Mr Feng to marry him under “false premises,” and thus sided with him.

Mr Feng constantly accused his wife of having an affair, until she finally told him she blamed herself for the child’s looks and that she was the reason for the looks that were not up to the father’s standards.

I'm sure in the long term, China will out-weird Japan.

I do wonder how he was able to conceive three kids under the one-child policy...

Money.

Actually ... there are lots of exceptions to the rule, apparently.

I feel sorry for the child - how is she going to be damaged from this sort of nonsense from her own father.

If mental shallowness is genetic, she may not suffer so much.

On the other hand, for her physical issues (whatever they are), she may try to find the solution in cosmetic surgery...

I couldn't agree more. A very cruel and harmful thing to do to a child. Disgusting.
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

This is a bullshit story. It's been going around for years.

As for the one child policy, certain ethnic groups are exempt and rich people can afford the fine.

Yes, I was about to say that we need a Snopes filter on wacky news posts.

Snopes also answers the three child question, and points out that the first born, a daughter, looks pretty masculine and that the article fails to explain how two other children emerged after the divorce.

It truly is a media wilderness. Newspapers will now print anything.

Somebody should introduce snopes.com to people masquerading as journalists.

My fave is still the bagel-heads story that did the rounds a while ago after somebody saw Mulboyne's post here on FG.

Feel bad for the kids...they always suffer the worst of their idiot parents actions....but while the father is quite an ass, I totally blame the mother too. I got no problem with plastic surgery but with the amount that lemur had, to hide it from the dude and marry him, is pretty slimy. Especially with such a shallow guy, she had to have known it was a deal breaker for him. They're both "going to hell" candidates IMO.

My kid's chinese tutor has also mentioned that even if you are poor or a non-ethnic minority its still somewhat common to have more than the allotted number of children. But you take a drastic cut in the social benefits you receive. Not sure how that all works because I don't talk too much with her but every now and then she drop a few gems of insight.

If one goes to the news link, the top picture shown here doesn't show up, the story doesn't suggest or support the idea of any other children, and that wife in the top is not the woman shown in the link's pictures.
But just to keep on track, none of those kids shown in the top picture are exactly model material, especially the Kim Jong Il lookalike on the right. That nose is positively porcine.

Anybody remember the old rather mythologised one about a Japanese man granted a divorce because his wife had dated a foreigner previous to marriage?

Never heard that but I've heard a few J "men" who have said they won't go near a lemur who has been with a black d00d. The first time I refrained from saying anything, the second time I heard it from a guy I really...really disliked, I said something like "Yeah, I wouldn't if I were you either...going from an XXXL to XXXS, there is no way she's going to be able to even feel you." He was not amused

Speaking of genes, how about the news of the day?

While I say the hospital can get fucked, I do find the J-reasoning in the case amusing.

due to the mix-up, the man was raised as the fourth son of a family to which he has no biological connection.

Interesting that his biological brothers also get compensated.

This kind of reasoning is common in Japanese courts. They take socioeconomic status into account in the payouts for wrongful death lawsuits.

I still laugh about the whole "chonan" thing...half the people I know where that shit came into play for one reason or another, have gone against it. (lemur's family included) Either because the family had a daughter first or the "chonan" just isn't interested or capable of whatever is being thrown their way. (so yeah, not to take away from how fucked the guy was by the hospital...but the whole "chonan" argument isn't as certain as it sounds)
