Is there an ongoing competition for the biggest BS gaijin story? First the gulag now that shit. Sorry ass motherfucker - I do hope the yak will get him if only for the principle.

Nice!!

But seriously...that's the only explanation I find plausible. As for the Yak excuse....Mr. Fujioka there summed it up nicely:

Yup, I feared for my family's life. That's why I left them alone in a country with the Yakuza.

That was a coward ass move. Leaving his preggo wife and kid like that is just dumb.

Why didn't he just get his wife and kid and go? I understand that the wife couldn't fly on a plane without a Dr note, but at least help them out.

‘Missing’ U.K. man turns up safe in Britain
Claim of running from yakuza leaves many unanswered questions
The Japan Times Jan 15, 2014 by Tomohiro Osaki
...
A source close to the matter contacted by The Japan Times, however, blasted the Daily Mail story as a “fictional piece,” while refusing to elaborate because he is “not in a position to speak publicly.” He added he has no knowledge of Dart’s whereabouts and hasn’t seen or spoken to the Briton since his disappearance.
According to other sources close to Dart, he left behind a large number of unpaid debts and bills, contradicting the Daily Mail’s claim that he was running a successful business...more...
Jake Adelstein contributed to this story.

Nope...If you really feared for your life with the Yaks, why the hell would you leave your family without a word and run. According to that article, he didn't even contact his wife until after he got back to the U.K. That don't jive too well with his story either.

Besides, as mentioned a few posts back (which our Austin Powers-inspired troll has missed or ignored), even Jake seems critical of the yak angle...

now conspiracy theory time.... quite possible that he was sick as fuck with the wife and went to Thailand for some fun? a big FU to the wife? yaks are probably in his realm of biz, but used as an excuse?

either way what he did was pretty douchey... even I wouldn't run out on my family... despicable if it meant my life. there are ways to GTFO, especially with the cash on hand that he had.

There are many things that GoHomeLoser said. I am just curious (no ax to grind) about which of the comments are "wildly inaccurate"?
gohomeloser • 20 hours ago −
His so-called 'successful business' story was a complete fabrication. His company was heavily in debt (he was figured from a job at the Hobgoblin pub in Roppongi after stealing money from an office safe). So he took what cash he had on hand - his family's cash, remember, not company cash - and did a runner. Given that he never even told his wife what was up, I highly suspect another female was involved.
He claims to have given most of the money 'to the yakuza', and then was 'on the run' (i.e., traveled) across Southeast Asia on a few dollars a day, for six months. Riiiiight. Then shows up out of the blue in the UK.
And his situation in Japan with the yakuza was sooo scary he...up, never told his wife to leave with him, has no problems doing interviews with the paper. Riiiight.

What a tosser. I hope he's got a bit of money left over for a divorce lawyer, and I hope his wife sues his ass for every penny he makes for the next 18 years.

Yeahbaby, I am going to add to Taro's comment by saying your claim is less believable than GoHomeLoser unless you're in possession of some firsthand information the rest of us don't have. And if that's the case, I doubt anybody will give you much credibility unless you back it up with some supporting evidence or explanation other than saying it's not true. If you'd like to make a point, now's your chance.

Not very nice of him to leave his wife with all his debts.

On the other hand, she may find another guy to support her, because she doesn't look totally non-fornicatable.

It is entirely possible. She, like many, may be dubious about this latest story and might do an internet search on her husband's name, trying to make sense of it all.
Whichever story you choose to believe, she always comes across as an innocent and wronged party in all this. Your opinion, while amusing on one level, is objectifying that innocent bystander, and is being made in a public place, and kept on record. That doesn't necessarily mean that it is wrong of you to express it. Only that it would make me sour if it was about me and I saw it, at a time when my sense of humour is likely to be pretty stretched.

For the record, I am eminently rootable.

Don't hurt the feeling of someone you don't know and never posted there but might be reading someday your post and will certainly not like it according to someone who don't know her either, but tell us we should care.

Imagine the scene.

"Oh darn, the guy we were going to murder found out about our plans, how on earth did that happen?"

"Gee kumicho, it must have been that time I got drunk in a bar and revealed our plans to a casual gaijin I know, by amazing coincidence he knew the guy we were going to murder well enough to have his phone number, he must have tipped him off"

"Gosh yakuza underling, I am not going to have you dropped into a vat of molten asphalt having heard that unlikely confession of gross stupidity, instead let's extort some money from the guy by threatening him, his pregnant wife and small child, because it is unlikely he would react by talking to the police, who are currently enforcing stringent new laws against our existence.

"Perhaps we should tell him to leave Japan too, then we won't be able to extort more money from him at a later date"

"Good thinking underling, just so long as he doesn't run away to Yorkshire and spill the unfermented beans to the local press, because although we have a global reach, we are no match for neighbours of practitioners of Ecky Thump"
