Yes, because then China has no recourse but to cut off all oil, or lose face in Asia. :?

This is just my opinion but I say lets all 'fun it'.
Screw all these hostile stances! Lets just share our plutonium with them, its almost Christmas time... good present, they would love it! Tell em' to test it just outside of the capital; to make sure its working and all. Have miss Kim stand outside and watch the show...this all = US, Japan and NK friends till the end, or US and Japan anyway.

Yeah, I agree with ChrisRT. Japan should help North Korea build more nuclear plants so that they can harvest more plutonium. In fact, TEPCO should do it for free.

CIA Says N.Korea Already Has 'Validated' Nuke
Friday, November 07, 2003 8:08 p.m. ET
WASHINGTON (Reuters) -
North Korea appears to have built one or two nuclear weapons it could be confident would work even without a test nuclear blast, the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency has told Congress.
"We assess that North Korea has produced one or two simple fission-type nuclear weapons and has validated the designs without conducting yield-producing nuclear tests," the CIA said in written replies to questions from the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

This is the same CIA that didn't know India or Pakistan were going to detonate weapons? The same CIA that can't even cover the current batch of incoming Middle East information due to a dearth of Arabic speakers?

I'll believe North Korea has the bomb when we see the test blast. Until then, it's posturing.

N . Korea Threatens to Test Nuclear Device - - US
Reuters June 25, 2004
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - North Korea has threatened to test a nuclear device if the United States does not accept its proposal to freeze its nuclear programs in exchange for compensation....U.S. official said the issue was raised in a low-key way by North Korean Foreign Ministry officials arguing they wanted a solution but that hard-liners in their Defense Ministry were less enthusiastic and so Washington should accept Pyongyang's proposal of a nuclear freeze for compensation.
Asked if the North Korean reference to testing could be viewed as a throw-away remark, one official said: "No North Korean reference to testing is a throw-away remark."

Yeah, everytime Taiwan is about to have an election, China rattles their sabers. Hong Kong has democracy marches, China sends in the fleet.

"quietly beginning to negotiate a separate peace. "

Postby Taro Toporific » Fri Jun 25, 2004 1:23 pm

Hmm...
About-Face on North Korea: Allies HelpedNYTimes.com > Washington
By DAVID E. SANGER / June 23

.....One camp, encompassing many in the Pentagon and Vice President Dick Cheney's office, has argued for further isolating North Korea's government and pressing for its collapse. Another, rooted in the State Department and some corners of the National Security Council, has said that Kim Jong Il, North Korea's leader, should be put to the test, given a serious offer that lays out what kind of benefits would flow if he gave up an expanding nuclear program. For now, that camp has won the day.
Mr. Bush selected his course because he had little choice: his Asian allies, picking up signals that the government of Mr. Kim may finally be willing to make a deal, were quietly beginning to negotiate a separate peace.
