Only been snowing for around 90 minutes and already we have solid ground cover.
Looks like the snow shovel will have to come out at some point. I was hoping to avoid that little chore this year.

Just went out and bought my First Ever Snow Shovel™. After last year's snow it seems it might be useful to have one.

I haven't had to shovel any snow since we lived in Nagano (Yokohama and Fukuoka since then), don't miss shoveling one bit.
We actually had a bit of the white stuff stay on the ground here on Friday.
This is the massive snowfall in my yard after about 5 hours of steady downfall...

We only have about 10 cm so far, so Tokyo wins!

Trouble is ... it's snowing pretty hard and it isn't going to stop until around noon tomorrow.
Good thing I stocked up on kerosene.

Some jobs you don't want, newspaper delivery guy. A bit earlier a guy went by pushing his 3 wheeled scooter delivering lunch to some poor soul.

Getting kinda sucky up here snow-wise.

Really fine powder snow coming down in fairly strong wind, so there are drifts building up all over the damn place. Just had to push a sizeable pile of the stuff out of the way to get the front door open. But it's light powder, so not too bad to deal with ... yet. I'm going to have to dig to get the car out tomorrow, before it all freezes into a solid lump.

Shit.

Are you sure you are not German? Anyway, around here we had a bit of snow last night and then steady rain all day. Now it's just windy and everything is rapidly drying out. Much ado, including panic buying of bread, about nothing.

Spent 1500 yen on a snow shovel (made in Japan, from the local shotengai, gotta support indigenous business) so needed to get some value out of it.

It's turning to wet snow and 10 deg C forecast for tomorrow, so I guess it won't last long.

 That was exactly Mrs Slave's question on Friday night when I returned with news of the great bread shortage. We though are well ahead of the herd on that front as we have been steadily stockpiling for months now, ahead of the 5% tax increase. Have to use all that lovely newly built storage space for something. We also seem to have accumulated vast amounts of washing up liquid, shampoo, washing liquid and that yellow bathroom cleaner following the same rationale.

And then after April 1 the market for toilet paper collapses, and everything is put on sale...

Fuuuuuuuu! 3 hours to Saitama because the cops decided to close the highway and post idiots with rave sticks at every entrance in front of cones...rather than send em out to do something useful like collection of all the broken chains on the road. Saw at least three assholes without snow tires or chains...two stuck, on idiot almost crashing every 10 secs. Last year it was idiots hosing snow off their walkways to create some nice slip and die potential, this year its assholes shoveling snow into the fucking street. I nailed one guy with a snowball for it...don't think he made the connection though.

Always wonder why they close the highways in these cases.

Now all traffic is forced to take the local roads. It's not as if that creates less accidents.

The highways here are elevated, giving slippery risk through freezing, but wouldn't it be better to dump some salt on them and strictly enforcing a low speed limit?

Not sure I'd like to drive on an elevated concrete highway whose rebar has been exposed to the effects of being dusted with liberal amounts of industrial salt.
