Yoshida defeated Maria Gurova by technical fall in the 53-kilogram class as Japan captured its first title in two years with an 8-0 win over Russia. Yoshida's 61-year-old father, Eikatsu, who also served as coach of Japan's national women's team, was found dead in his car after suffering a brain hemorrhage on the morning of March 11 while driving on an expressway.
