Maybe you are thinking of Palau, but Pulau is simply Malay for Island, in this case Langkawi.

Mike just left the word 島 hanging there with a hyperlink. You won't believe what happened next!

Unless it was a postmodern statement on how the linked article consistently misspelled Kuala Lumpur.

The original Google+ post which was the basis for that interesting article Mike posted has some lively discussion about the merits or otherwise of the theory, for those interested. https://plus.google.com/106271056358366 ... oeVjHJaGBz

That's creepy... The writer is one "Chris Goodfellow", and earlier this evening I watched "Goodfellas" for some reason. Coincidence? I think not. Has anyone verified whether Malaysia Airlines were keeping up their "insurance payments" to Luigi?

Hmmm. The 777 has a perfect safety record in the air but not on the ground

It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Err, nope.

Admit it... you really want a Royal Family (and as you massacred yours you'll take the closest one you can get).

LONDON — Would France have been better off under Queen Elizabeth II?

The revelation that the French government proposed a union of Britain and France in 1956 — even offering to accept the sovereignty of the British queen — has left scholars on both sides of the Channel puzzled.

Newly discovered documents in Britain’s National Archives show that former French Prime Minister Guy Mollet discussed the possibility of a merger between the two countries with British Prime Minister Sir Anthony Eden.

“I completely fell off my seat,” said Richard Vinen, an expert in French history at King’s College in London. “It’s such a bizarre thing to propose.”

Are we talking here about the European Union?

Having flown in that general direction a couple of times that is one big, empty, lonely ocean. I was hypnotised. Most awesome thing I've seen from a plane, Siberia a very close second.

Would have been CECA first... Communaute Europeene du Charbon et de l'Acier, hint, Yurop was never aboot nations, it was all aboot trade and kapitalism from the start, only since the mid-late 90' they toped with a bullshit icing of freedom loving union between nations to make the pill easier to swallow.

Also, French governement in the 50' was a sad affair, either the former general with full power controlling everything including the medias, or random wacko from the looneybin that had just to wait for his turn. So it's not surprising that this kind of idiocy could have been suggested... Despite the fact that France still have a legitimate royal family (see the Duke of Paris).

Personally... i'd take a king over any of the idiots that came after Mitterrand. Plus, democracy is the dictatorship of the middle... And there is way too much idiots registered on the voting list...

Even worse, they're mandatory til high school!! (though you wouldn't know it by some of the graduates)

I'm familiar with the structure, I was just poking fun at the whole commonwealth, cuntry but still sort of colony, cut and paste monarch, royal this royal that...cuz maybe the whole thing looks silly in 2014 (at least for us outsiders) and even more so when the "Royal" part is added to something like the military.

I find the Royal part quite cool... Feels more natural to fight for the Queen and kingdom rather than for a random elected shmuck who won because the other guy sucked even more...

Or do like the Russians, pretend to elect a president but always keep Vlad P in power.
