Pollen season 2014

Postby matsuki » Mon Apr 21, 2014 8:36 pm

This shit is hitting me like nuclear fallout. WTF is in the air right now? I was fine in Niigata...roll to Saitama/Tokyo on Saturday and suddenly I'm overwhelmed. Claritin and the OTC shit I have seems no match for whatever is killing me..... Sugi? Hinoki?

Have you tried Allegra? Works for me.

You can get it OTC, but it gets kind of expensive that way, so I get it (or rather the generic version = Fexofenadine) on prescription. Doesn't make me drowsy so I can work through the worst of it. Otherwise I just sit there slack jawed with sawdust for brains until the season passes.

Guess i'll try that next. Usually not this bad and claritin usually works but the past few days have been hell.

If it is fine in Niigata (cleaner air, better breezes, non?), then it is probably the toxic urban mix (pollen+dust+pollution). I got that something fierce in Kyoto but few other places, and always got walloped when returning to Kyoto from those other places. Maybe it's like a micro-immunity balance thingy???? :?:

I was always a smuggled Claritin guy (they used to confiscate more than one box), but what really worked was the allergy tea and root of hogwort (or whatever it was) I got from the Kanpo Yaku guy down the block. I wish I could remember what he gave me, but I always just referred to it as Toe of Pickled Newt. Non-drowsy, very effective after a day or 2. It was a tea and the packets of powder combination.

Also, as a quick band-aid relief, steam and lethal amounts of wasabi, some of it on the lower inside of your booger tubes.

Do they allow the nice advanced non-drowsy Western pharmaceutical stuff in now? They are joining the 20th Century at an alarming rate.

Anyhoo, ouch and good luck.

Consensus of everyone out here is Hinoki pollen but hell if I know what it really is. Like you say, Tokyo air is full of all kinds of shit. Time to get more medicated.

Kuro - Claritin and Nasonex are available by prescription but still cheaper as OTC from kaigai.

Aaaah. That might be why I used to smuggle it in, being a cheep cvnt and all.

Anyhoo, yeah, generally filthy air would be my diagnosis.

Good luck, meds up.
