"Le Toast Anglo-Français au Pizza", to give it its proper name, was developed jointly in the 1970s by the UK and France to provide an on-board snack for the Concorde which would be palatable for the passengers from the main markets, i.e. the UK, France and North America. Less successful than envisaged (for political reasons production was handled by a consortium lead by the British National Cake Council and the catering arm of the then nationalised British Rail), the recipe was forgotten in a suitcase which was passed on to the original inventor's brother-in-law, an apple grower from Kent, who later travelled to Aomori on an apple-related junket and who, on realising he'd forgotten to bring a present for his hosts, key players in the Tohoku apple pie industry, fortuitously discovered the recipe and handed it over as a gift.

Maybe I just never noticed it before but lately I've seen "dog" written as "dock" everywhere? Last night at one of the service areas, they had everything from "gyoza dock" to "American dock" and even "a potato is around" for good measure.

Putting aside the facts that this was back in May and I haven't bothered to read it until now, and also that the original image was ブラッド, my theory is that the origin of dock for dog is that the native vocabulary never geminates a voiced consonant. In other words, you never find っ◯゙ appearing natively, and this has rubbed off onto some words that Japan has welcomed into the family. Brad isn't one of the family yet.

By the way, I don't think a gyoza dog is a very good idea.

There's no need to write that though because it's understood so it's not an example of Engrish it's an example of the kind of shorthand that's common on signs in public.

I'm more concerned with why they thought people need a sign to understand stairs are not handicapped accessible....of wait

Yea, but, is the parking totally inaccessible to wheelchairs or just if you want to use the stairs ?

Surely there's a place for cars to enter and exit. The sign clearly says stairs to parking not parking. By law parking would have to be handicap accessible in the US.
