WWII Japan was 'just like North Korea'

Author Probes Oddities of World War II Life in Japan
Wall Street Journal blog, 2014/05/13
When author Tadanori Hayakawa looks at life in Japan during World War II, his eye is drawn to the bizarre.
Take the case of nudism: At some schools, both the pupils and teachers wore only underpants or trousers to become physically stronger. A photo from 1943 shows that even a principal was working almost naked at his desk.
A magazine for homemakers gave advice on how to grow opium poppies for use as anesthetics during a medicine shortage. Readers were told to go to government health offices for free seeds...
...
Mr. Hayakawa’s research showed how police routinely checked on the wives of soldiers away at the front to keep the women from having adulterous affairs and ensure their husbands could fight without worry. When detectives caught wind of a visit by a paramour to a lonely wife, they would ambush and arrest him.
One magazine told readers how to make pickles when there wasn’t enough salt, saying they should go to the seashore and bury vegetables in the sand. The next day they could dig at the spot and find good pickles, according to the magazine...
...
Mr. Hayakawa said he was genuinely interested in the ideas and ways of life shown in his unique collection of materials. “Most readers enjoy them. Many have said, ‘Oh, this is just like North Korea,’ ” he said.

Oh, this is just like North Korea

Yep...I wonder if they'll eventually start to question why they still send their children to school (in this love piece and ice cream cuntry) in uniforms with military backpacks.

Can't see it. At elementary school they don't have a uniform and the backpacks aren't military looking to me. More European school satchel specifically designed for books sort of thing. At JHS they have a uniform but most these days are English public school style rather than military. And they don't have a backpack, they have a soft carry-all bag. At many high schools there is no uniform at all and a soft carry all bag.

Which explains why many older Japanese are anti-military, they had it forced down their throats as children and saw where it got the country, firebombed, nuked and occupied.

"Many older Japanese" != "(all) the Japanese". Just saying, like.

That's what I thought as well. They are dying out though unfortunately. Oh for the days when random old men would seize your hand on the train, pump it and just keep repeating the word "peace" over and over again. One of the nicest things I have ever experienced anywhere in the world.

Don't confuse the word "many" with "all"

Many Australians are racist, doesn't mean all Australians are.

From what I gathered, most of those that where below 30 when shit hit the fan are mostly anti war.
Seeing it mostly with mominlaw:
During the war there was nothing to eat, now there is plenty, so eat what you want and fuck if there is too much if the cats don't like a little side dish the trash never refused anything.

Those that were older meanwhile were mostly anti... Having lost the fucking war... (And manchuria/the empire and pn and on, suffering without bearing fruit of their actions)...
Seing mostly from me bitch raised by her grandmother (who might have been as fucked as mine in the head, bullet would have been no use, needed to be nuked from orbit.):
During the war there was nothing to eat, so finish your plate, if something is expired just cook it more, and on and on... It's like a dystopian timewarp to have them at the same table. Sometimes you could put a caption over mom's head when she look at me Julie: "she was adopted, I swearz"
