Car insurance

Postby canman » Sun May 18, 2014 10:48 pm

Does anybody know how long after an accident is it still on your record? I had a small accident three years ago, and I'm wondering if it is still on my record? In 14 years I've had 3 claims, nothing huge, but my insurance rep told me I have a bad record!

Why don't you ask your insurance agent since you're obviously already talking with him?

Because every time I ask him, he tells me my driving record is bad, thus my premiums are high. Also he is my wife's cousin, and I'm stuck using him, but I'm not sure if he is doing a good job representing me!

Family fucking over family here, couldn't happen....

Seriously though, go get a quote from another place and if the difference is more than negligible, throw that in front of him. At least then, if he refuses to lower your rates, you can suck your teeth and do the "regretably" act as you switch over to another carrier.

Get a quote from another agent and if it's better, tell your cousin that you're going to change agents unless he can beat that price.

Unflippenbelievable, I've asked 7 of my corporate students about their insurance, and not one has a clue how the system works. One told me there are 22 levels, and as you make claims your number decreases, but he had no idea how long it takes to recover to the higher numbers.
Sounds like a scam to me. But I'll check and see what Axa direct will quote me. Although the wife will be pissed, that is for sure.

I, too, used to have an insurance agent recommended through a friend. I also have a background in insurance in another country. When, after years and years with the same agent, I found greater flexibility (i.e. removing unnecessary bells and whistles so that I bear some of the risk myself rather than getting insurance for unnecessary extras) and cheaper premiums by doing it myself online, my agent merely said "I can't match that flexibility. I can't match that price." Poor him, he had an easy customer in me but he lost that customer.

Mitsui Direct consistently give me a quote less than Axa Direct. I don't know how inconvenient they make your life when you try to make a claim, because I have never made a claim against any of my insurance here.

Regarding the no claim discount levels and how quickly you recover them: I have the very strong feeling that all of the insurance companies use precisely the same calculation methods. I can look through some fine print and describe the system to you if you want, but I also think it is a like it or lump it system so it really makes no difference to you whether you know and understand the system or not. You can not change your claim history, nor change the system.
