I've heard that nyotaimori is available at some of the real pricey places in Ginza. Problem for us is, those places are extremely expensive, they're not gaijin friendly, and it's usually patronized by oyaji with expense accounts and corporate memberships.

I'll take my sushi on a conveyor belt, thank you.

Doesn't really strike me as interesting. You'd be better off doing the same thing at home with a girl you know. That way, you can have your dessert and eat it too. 8)

Worse yet, imagine a Korean buffet!

Kimchi, live baby octopi, squid jerky, silkworm pod soup and shrimp chips.

:puke:

Some of the food here is okay, but even a naked chick couldn't improve a lot of it.

Controversy Over Naked Sushi in Seattle
http://us.cnn.com/2003/US/West/11/12/offbeat.naked.sushi.ap/index.html
Promoters insist it's performance art. Detractors say women are getting a raw deal.

Whatever the case, the controversy over the Bonzai nightclub serving sushi on nearly naked women isn't about to fade anytime soon.

"It's dehumanizing, the manner in which people are buying and selling sushi to be eaten off a woman's body. It's dehumanizing to be treated as a plate," said Cherry Cayabyab, president of the local chapter of National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum.

I love being treated as a plate...

and all along people thought it was gross to be eating something on a women when she was fishy 8O

Critics at the university Women's Center say it still promotes violence against women.

This is based on the same AP story as above, but it's interesting to see the trim that CNN made...

According to the AOL/TW/CNN machine there's only one side of story that needs to be heard.

Since the story is in the Offbeat section, maybe they're implying it's a little wacky to be protesting something like this... Therefore siding with the 'artistic' arguement by not including that side.... ? (wha?)..

Don't know, but I just found out I can't view this story from work, because they're blocking the word 'naked'...

OK, back to the front!

Now not to get too high on my high horse.. but really this type of activity is just tacky and people try to justify it by calling it art.. this way, anybody that disagrees can be called a prude or a philistine.

For a bachelor party, sure I can understand.. I am certainly no prude, but I do think that this is tacky as it is only appealing to half of the guests at a mixed party.

Now if it was an ice sculpture of two people having sex then perhaps I would call that art.. 8O

I don't think that it promotes violence against women.. what a load of dogs bollocks. It just reminds me of junior highschool boys giggling over their first view of Hustler, or laughing at the word "fart" in the dictionary.

They're clearly pushing the family values angle and only quoting the protesters (Asian and Pacific Islander Women and Family Safety Center and National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum), whereas the full article lets you hear both sides and make up your own mind..

Tabloid garbage, with saucy, google-fodder key-words, attract clicks.. I'd be willing to bet WaiWai supplies 80% of Mainichi's visits.

I didn't know the 'tabloid garbage' section of the news usually presented both sides. I thought the 'garbage' side was what people read. That's why I thought they might be poking fun at the protesters since they only presented their side.

Just my thoughts..

I think if you don't want to see that kind of thing, don't go to the shop.. if the person doing the eating, and the person doing the plating are fine with it, it is none of my business, and I shouldn't dare to interject my opinion on the matter...

Now if it were done through coercion.. that would indeed need to be addressed...

Same with porn, stripping, S&M, etc... whatever floats your boat.. but to sit back and say well that is exploiting such and such group... while a member of that group does it without fail, is overboard... It's like we can no longer live and do what we want for fear someone might object.. and sue or try to stop us from expressing ourselves.

Would I want my sister or mother do this, hell no, and they never would. But if some skeezer wants to lay down and slap raw fish all over her privates while some nasty man eats it off of her, then so be it...

If there is no demand, it will die away...

Sushi Party

Postby kurohinge1 » Thu Nov 20, 2003 3:44 pm

Caustic Saint wrote:And if you're too poor to spring for the real deal...

   Barbie sushi !

And naked sushi appears to have reached down under (so to speak). This week I saw it advertised in Sydney's Cheers (Japanese) paper - one place had an ad for a "special sushi party" with a photo of two naked girls covered in various small servings of dead sea life.

It did remind me of an old joke though ... (cue flashback music)

God came down to check on Adam & Eve and found only Adam in the garden of Eden. He asked where Eve was and Adam replied that they'd just had sex and Eve was down by the river washing herself.

"Not in the river!" exclaimed God, "We'll never get the smell out of the fish!"

The Chinese get really excited about it.

 http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=1516&e=3&u=/afp/20040405/od_afp/china_japan_lifestyle_040405104929]Hit It Girls

The Hefengcun Huaishi restaurant launched a promotional "feast on a beauty's body," for local journalists last Friday, hiring two attractive fair-skinned college girls to lie on tables, with sushi and other food and flowers placed on their bare bodies

"We didn't think the reaction would be so explosive, so controversial," Li said. "The purpose of this promotion is not commercial, but to spread Japanese culture."

And this next one is really interesting...

Known as "Nyotai Mori" in Japan, the feasts date back to ancient times and are often offered in special hotspring resorts today, but are generally left off menus. They are offered to aficionados on request.

My wife and I have holidayed at onsen resorts a number of times but I didn't know about this. Anybody wanna venture a guess on what percent of these places offer this service or do you think it's just one of those things where if you got enough bread they summon up some local girl to do it? What's behind the scenes? I thought it was more of a drinking district hostess bar kind of thing.

Very good questions. I think this is a great road trip idea: "the quest for nyotai mori". With the Spring weather, I'm itchin' for a road trip anyway.

Plenty offer "Onsen geisha" and it's something ask for although some places have it printed out as a "party option." Onsen geisha are known to NOT be geisha but companions who turn tricks on the side.

They're generally farm wives working off bad debts for their faux-farmer husbands. Often Onsen geisha are randy ladies over 40 years old who are a lot of fun, really! In Isu, I've seen them put on pussy puppet shows and pimp young girls from the village (who I assume "could" be asked to do naked sushi since they do far more exciting things). In an interesting konyaku conversation at 3am, one lady explained to me that

Bottom Line: If you're buying, somebody is selling.
