While I think that's an amazing achievement to make a laptop that thin, I could never have one. I'd be worried it'd snap in two.

I'm envious of how littlle it weighs though.

The limited edition case looks pretty sharp just 505 available.

Does anybody have 400 000 yen I can borrow. I will sell myself as your sex toy if you want. 400 000 for One night only better be tonight as I have a feeling they are going to sell out.

I've seen it, held it, and it is really stunning. It has flaws (like VGA and Ethernet on a dongle instead of on the chassis; only 20GB for HDD; max 512MB RAM, etc.) but it is really sexy and really impressive in person. Much more impressive than in the photos. The carbon fiber case version is only available at Sony Style Japan, btw.

What about the PVC-P101? I think it's getting ignored like the fat chick that walks into the bar the same time as her sexy friend.

Sony blows. Good luck getting support worth a damn. Dell is the only way to go, AND I got bluetooth and 802.11G built-in (not on a stupid dongle or PC-card)

Unfortunately, Dell's recent laptops have gone way downhill in terms of quality and service (in the US at least). They've become very hit and miss lately. Take a look at the Dell forums if you don't believe me.

I got a Dell Inspiron here and the service I received was appalling. If it wasn't for their reasonable price I would have got an IBM instead.

But was the amount you saved worth the lower reliability of the machine and the frustration of dealing with their service people? That's the key. You may save money initially, but it's likely to cost you in the long run.

I jhave a Dell Latitude D400, no problems. I have a Dell Precision 350 at work, and the fan died on it (with the computer shutting down due to power issues shortly after). Called Dell support, had a replacement fan the next day.

I guess you get what you pay for. With Dell, you get reasonable equipment with excellent telephone support (if you know what's wrong with the machine), and with IBM you pay out the ass for the equipment (and heaven help you if they used one of their own disk systems in the machine... those infamous DeathStar disks). With Sony, you get a nice piece of artwork that is fragile and impossible to support.

Okay, truth be told, I was just pissed that I had to pay Sony $60 for my VAIO R505 Windows XP drivers. The machines are probably fine, and my machine had no trouble until it finally disintegrated after two years of use. The disk interface, although advertised as U/DMA100, was pokey (even after I replaced the disk with a faster travelstar). In comparison, my Latitude, with built-in smartcard support, has been a dream. Perhaps other people have had trouble with their Dell laptops, but I've been lucky so far. :!:
