I think it's pretty reasonable to have cameras make a sound when they take a picture. And 65db should be loud enough for people to know somebody's taking snaps.

My students generally know better than to have their phones out in class, but I'll get the occasional "teacher, I just took your picture. See?" One of my students told me a friend of theirs did that at her Korean middle school and the teacher took the phone and smashed it. Serves the little bastard right. A 14 year-old has no need for a $400 phone anyways. I don't even have that nice of a phone.

My thoughts exactly. I told my students, "good teacher" but they didn't get why. "Inappropriate" doesn't really enter into their vocabulary.

Then again, this is the country where "ddong chim" (trying to ram your fingers up somebody's ass) is considered funny.

The same thing exists in Japan. 'ddong chim' = 'kanchou' in Japanese. I think (I hope?) it's just an elementary school practical joke.
